As food enters the intestines for digestion, the peptide hormone cholecystokinin(CCK) stimulates the vagus nerve to send a satiety signal to the brain. The vagus nerve is therefore sensitive to stomach distension and CCK levels, as well as other factors related to food consumption. It communicates these satiety signals to the brain, and reduces food consumption. Other satiety signals operate over a longer time scale. The most important of these is the hormone leptin..., which is released mostly from adipose cells... The more fat in the cells, the more leptin is released into the bloodstream. When leptin reaches the brain, it signals that enough fat is stored throughout the body. 2, record 1, English, - satiety%20signal

Assays of biochemical systems are carried out on a large scale in both industry and academia, so it is desirable to have an apparatus that allows these assays to be performed in a convenient and inexpensive fashion. Because they are relatively easy to handle and low in cost, microplates are often used for such studies. Microplates typically consist of a plurality of individual wells formed of polymeric materials. Each well includes sidewalls and a bottom so that an aliquot of a sample may be placed within each well. The wells may be arranged in relatively close proximity in a matrix pattern, allowing samples to be studied individually or as a group. Common sizes for microplates include matrices having dimensions of 4x6(24 wells) or 8x12(96 wells), although larger microplates are also used that may include matrices of hundreds or even thousands of wells. 9, record 2, English, - microplate

1, record 4, French, - marquage%20des%20%C3%A9cailles

Computational capability has been developed to calculate sensitivity coefficients of generalized responses with respect to cross-section data in the SCALE code system. The focus of this paper is the implementation of generalized perturbation theory(GPT) for one-dimensional and two-dimensional deterministic neutron transport calculations. GPT is briefly summarized for computing sensitivity coefficients for reaction rate ratio responses within the existing framework of the TSUNAMI sensitivity and uncertainty(S/U) analysis code package in SCALE. GPT provides the capability to analyze generalized responses related to reactor analysis, such as homogenized cross-sections, relative powers, and conversion ratios, as well as measured experimental parameters. 1, record 11, English, - generalized%20perturbation%20theory

The SCALE code system includes a sensitivity and uncertainty (S/U) analysis code package called TSUNAMI. TSUNAMI originally focused on keff responses for criticality safety analysis and included the capability to compute sensitivity coefficients using forward and adjoint solutions from three-dimensional Monte Carlo or one-dimensional (1D) discrete ordinates eigenvalue calculations. 1, record 11, English, - generalized%20perturbation%20theory

1, record 11, French, - th%C3%A9orie%20g%C3%A9n%C3%A9ralis%C3%A9e%20des%20perturbations

To facilitate inclusion of atmospheric stability classification in the wake meandering modeling, we fit the Mann spectral tensor model to stable and unstable atmospheric stratification. The Mann spectral method combines rapid distortion theory, an assumed linear mean wind shear, the Von Kármán spectral tensor and a model for eddy lifetime, and it is restricted to homogeneous Gaussian turbulence fields. Although the spectral tensor in principle contains the same information as the cross spectra, the tensor formulation leads to considerable simpler and faster simulations of turbulence than the cross spectra based methods. This type of synthetic turbulence field generation will therefore still be used for simulating the ambient turbulence field as well as the large scale turbulence field applied for the description of the meandering process. 2, record 12, English, - Mann%20spectral%20tensor%20model

Oilfields, after a certain production period, are then called mature fields. Mature fields are those where the recovered oil fraction is close to the final recovery factor. Its mature phase is generally accompanied by an increasing production of water or gas, plus the aging of surface and subsurface equipment. To revitalize mature fields, a series of technologies is developed to increase the final recovery factor through treatments on a field(the so-called tertiary petroleum recovery) or well(stimulation, recompletion, treatments and logging) scale, in addition to optimizing the techniques relating to oil lift, its surface flow and treatment. 2, record 24, English, - mature%20field%20revitalization

Many mature gas fields also have a fairly significant production decline, especially when development drilling has come to an end. These mature fields can be revitalized in many ways. In some instances, efforts are focused on the reservoir with further drilling to drain potentially unswept hydrocarbons with infill wells or horizontal laterals. The horizontal drilling might be from new wellbores or wells that are currently temporarily abandoned or near their economic limit. With the increase in horizontal-well activity, there is an abundance of new technology with advances in gravel-pack design, underbalanced drilling with coiled tubing, and coiled-tubing fracturing. Besides these production improvements, operators are revamping both downhole and surface facilities to help breathe new life into older fields. Advances are taking place in the areas of artificial lift, intelligent-well completions, expandable tubulars, and others. 3, record 24, English, - mature%20field%20revitalization

This thesis presents a new approach for the initialization process(initial alignment and calibration) of strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems for air launched tactical missiles operating in an unaided inertial navigation mode... The initialization is treated as a training of Artificial Neural Network filter. A new methodology is developed which can handle, misalignment of Inertial Navigation System and scale factor, as well as bias errors of the measurement instruments used in Inertial Navigation System... It is shown that the optimization algorithm employed as well as Artificial Neural Network is quite suitable for Inertial Navigation System initialization. Prelaunch aircraft maneuvers measured by the Inertial Navigation System of the aircraft provide the necessary training data for the Neural Network for the missile navigation system that initializes the missile's inertial navigation system. 1, record 27, English, - inertial%20navigation%20system%20initialization

A new detached office will be built to handle customer relations, and the scale driveway will extended from its current 100 feet to 140. The driveway extension will take place first, said Borgen, which will necessitate the B-train trucks to use trackside loading while that takes place. There will also be an increased head drive on the existing leg, and an additional shipping leg will be added in Phase II. An eventual goals as well is to locate the Pool' s farm service centre at the elevator, moving it out of the city, said Sanders. 2, record 28, English, - shipping%20leg

A vast amount of sea ice information is today available at the various ice services in the world. Almost all of this information is stored in the form of ice charts for operational purposes. For statistical or climatological use the chart format is however not convenient and the information needs to be digitized. This is done by assigning numerical values to the ice parameters and to read these values at given grid points on the chart. The charts prepared by the various ice services do not all contain the same number of parameters. The resolution and accuracy also vary according to the use for which the charts are intended. A large degree of flexibility has therefore to be built into the design of both code, format and grid. It should allow digitization of historical ice charts as well as current ones in order to obtain a comprehensive computer-compatible sea ice data bank which is currently updated. The SIGRID format is mainly designed to meet larger scale climate requirements but it may also be used by national services for other purposes. 1, record 31, English, - Format%20for%20Gridded%20Sea%20Ice%20Information

Biological effects of ionizing radiation.... at the upper end of the scale, there is no radiation exposure so high it will guarantee that every exposed individual will suffer the effect. Nor at the lower end is any exposure so low that it will carry no risk to anyone of inducing the effect. These radiation effects are therefore said to have "no threshold. "Logically, it follows that any exposure to radiation, no matter how small, carries some risk and that any reduction in exposure, even from an already very low level, confers some benefit. However, it is not always appreciated that the absence of a "safe" threshold is a theoretical assumption and a safety precaution rather than something that can be proven. It is also not well understood that the toxic effects of radiation, for which there is no defined safe level, may not differ fundamentally from those of some chemical toxins for which a "safe" level in the body or in the environment has been declared. 1, record 34, English, - no%20threshold
Record number: 34, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Complicating the problem of public perceptions of the level of risk associated with radioactive wastes is the confusion induced by two fundamental principles of radio-biological and radiation protection theory. The first is the "no-threshold" hypothesis, and the second is the "as low as reasonably achievable,"or ALARA, principle. The first principle holds that there is no threshold below which exposure to radiation is entirely safe. The "no threshold" hypothesis - that any exposure to ionizing radiation, no matter how small, will increase the probability of a harmful consequence to an exposed individual - is an important scientific concept. ... it is generally agreed that it is wise to err on the side of safety and work from the assumption that there is no safe level. 1, record 34, English, - no%20threshold

Gasification is a thermal process to convert solid fuel into gasified fuel by non-stoichiometric, partial combustion.... The most established gasifier system is the down-draught gasifier. Its disadvantage is the requirement for fuel preparation, which must be well cut, uniform wood or charcoal, with a moisture content not greater than 20%. 2, record 35, English, - downdraft%20gasifier

Mesojet... typically may have an along-flow length scale of tens to hundreds of kilometers and a cross-flow length scale of 100 km. Mesojets differ from planetary-scale jets, which can have length scales of several thousand kilometers, and synoptic-scale jets, which may have length scales of 1000-2000 km and are commonly found in association with progressive synoptic-scale troughs and ridges. Larger mesojets may also sometimes be known as jet streaks. Mesojets can form adjacent to prominent orographic features in association with terrain-channeled flow. Mesojets are also seen in association with organized mesocale convective systems as typified by the evaporatively driven rear-inflow jet commonly found behind active squall lines lines. Mesojets may also be found in conjunction with prominent lower-tropospheric stable layers where the airflow can become decoupled from the planetary boundary layer, especially at night. An exceptionally well organized lower-tropospheric mesojet extending over hundreds of kilometers might be known as a low-level jet. 3, record 37, English, - mesojet
