Improving the environment and creating a green and blue corridor is one of the main objectives in restoring the [Wilts and Berks Canal]. The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty adopted on 2 February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar, on the southern shore of the Caspian Sea. Thus, though nowadays the name of the Convention is usually written "Convention on Wetlands(Ramsar, Iran, 1971) ", it has come to be known popularly as the "Ramsar Convention"... The official name of the treaty-The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat-reflects its original emphasis on the conservation and wise use of wetlands primarily to provide habitat for waterbirds. Over the years, however, the Convention has broadened its scope to cover all aspects of wetland conservation and wise use, recognizing wetlands as ecosystems that are extremely important for biodiversity conservation in general and for the well-being of human communities. For this reason, the increasingly common use of the short form of the treaty's title, the "Convention on Wetlands", is entirely appropriate. The Convention entered into force in 1975... UNESCO serves as Depositary for the Convention, but its administration has been entrusted to a secretariat known as the "Ramsar Bureau", which is housed in the headquarters of IUCN-The World Conservation Union in Gland, Switzerland, under the authority of the Conference of the Parties and the Standing Committee of the Convention 1, record 5, English, - Convention%20on%20Wetlands%20of%20International%20Importance%20especially%20as%20Waterfowl%20Habitat

1, record 5, Spanish, - Convenci%C3%B3n%20relativa%20a%20los%20Humedales%20de%20Importancia%20Internacional%2C%20especialmente%20como%20H%C3%A1bitat%20de%20Aves%20Acu%C3%A1ticas

Conserving biodiversity is essential to the health of the planet and the welfare of humankind. Changes in frog and toad populations may be good indicators of changes in the wetland environments that sustain them. This is because they live "on the edge" between water and land, and are very sensitive to pollution and habitat alterations. 1, record 11, English, - Frogwatch%20Ontario

1, record 12, French, - Grand%20battement%20d%27aile%20national

... encompasses coastal wetlands, major rivers and adjacent uplands of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and Northern California. It is one of several critical habitat areas identified in the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. This plan created in 1986 by the United States and Canada and joined in 1988 by Mexico, is a partnership of local citizens, private companies, conservation organizations, and government agencies. A primary goal of the plan is to reserve the downward trend in waterfowl populations by returning their numbers to those recorded in the 1970s. In order to achieve this goal, the plan works to secure, restore or enhance priority wetlands and maintain some of the current wetland uses to which waterfowl have adapted, such as farming and ranching. 2, record 13, English, - Pacific%20Coast%20Joint%20Venture
