Condominium(condo) storage refers to space that a producer may own or lease within a licensed primary elevator... Using condo storage enables producers to position their grain closer to the market and allows them to initiate a sale at any time from anywhere around the world. Producers are also able to avoid spring road bans and the difficulty of moving grain by truck in the winter from on farm storage bins to a primary elevator. In the case of Canadian Wheat Board grain, condo storage allows producers to deliver into the elevator system above quotas and prior to a contract call. 2, record 1, English, - condominium%20storage

2, record 1, French, - capacit%C3%A9%20de%20stockage%20garantie%20au%20producteur

This famous wheat, commonly known as Red Fife or Scotch Fife in North America, is called "red" because that is its colour when fully ripe and "Fife" after David Fife, the Ontario farmer who was the first to grow it in North America when he sowed it on his farm in 1842. The story of how it got there has taken on aspects of myth and legend. It takes place at various locations across two continents : one often needs to look ahead in time, then back, to understand how it happened.(This section is based on Buller, Chapter III, sec. 23, p. 206-218). 2, record 7, English, - Red%20Fife%20Wheat

1, record 7, French, - bl%C3%A9%20Red%20Fife

Men and women also bartered with their neighbours and friends for much of what they needed. John Smith of Forty Mile Creek(present day Grimsby), for example, kept an account book that documented a variety of exchanges with several neighbours. Over a period of time in 1796, Smith supplied his father-in-law with hay, beef and wheat, and in return, received five quarts of salt and six shillings cash. How farm families disposed of their produce depended a great deal on personal circumstances, needs, market prices and the degree of risk one was willing to incur in the pursuit of profit. 1, record 9, English, - quart%20of%20salt

In 1892, at Agriculture Canada's Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, Dr. Charles Saunders made a selection of a cross of an early ripening Indian wheat, Hard Red Calcutta, with Red Fife. This selection was developed and licensed under the name Marquis. It was early maturing, produced high yields, and had the same excellent milling and baking qualities as Red Fife. Its quality became world renowned and was the single most important factor in establishing Canada's initial reputation as a producer of high quality wheat. Its performance was such that all inferior varieties were practically eliminated from production. 1, record 13, English, - early%20ripening%20Indian%20wheat

1, record 13, French, - bl%C3%A9%20indien%20pr%C3%A9coce

This striking documentary of the National Film Board of Canada pays tribute to the importance of women farmers to the agricultural economy, and recognizes the invisible subsidy their labor provides to consumers. Farm women from various parts of Canada, ranging in age from their thirties to seventies, are shown running a variety of farm operations, including mixed farming in Saskatchewan, wheat farming in Manitoba and dairy farming in Ontario. The women also share their views on agriculture today and their attempt to deal with economic and social challenges. 1, record 14, English, - In%20Her%20Chosen%20Field

1, record 14, French, - Une%20terre%20%C3%A0%20soi

Harmonization at the farm gate involves reconciling two radically different approaches in the two countries to attuning the collective concerns with individual pursuit of market imperfection. The Canadian "countervailing market power" model of the Canadian Wheat Board for export grain and supply management for feathers and milk contrasts sharply with the United States model of a "treasury floor" under agricultural terms of trade for cereals and oilseeds and unrestrained contract farming for the industrializing livestock sector. 2, record 16, English, - treasury%20floor
