Truck hunting is wheel set oscillation caused by the dynamic response of a railway car truck when operating above certain speeds. The truck oscillates between the rails with hard flange contact occurring at regular intervals of 30 to 50 feet. Truck hunting occurs on tangent track and is more severe where the track is stiff and where CWR [continuous welded rail] is laid. It normally does not begin until around 45 to 50 mph in the case of cars with worn wheels, and 55 to 60 mph for cars with new wheels.

In addition to inspections by employees, the condition of rolling stock is also checked using a network of wayside inspection systems(WISs) and wheel impact load detectors(WILDs) placed along the tracks. WISs include dragging equipment detectors and hot box and hot wheel detectors. WILDs measure the impact load generated by each wheel of a car and identify wheels with flats, and wheels whose running surface exhibits shelling or spalling, is out-of-round or is affected by an excess of metal. WISs are positioned at intervals of 10 to 15 miles on main tracks, and WILDs are placed at strategic locations.

Assystem City Car... is remarkably easy to park, and not only because of its compact dimensions(3. 60 m long, 1. 60 m wide and 1. 60 m tall), or its light weight(only 600 kg), but also because it has three axles, a central one, with two wheels, and one wheel in each extreme of the car(front and end). These single wheel axles are the ones responsible for moving and turning the Assystem City Car. The front wheel is powered by an electrical engine with 20 kW(about 27 cv), which can push the car to 50 km/h of top speed and has 30 km of autonomy, basically what regular people need to go to work and back home every day. For the roads, there is a little combustion engine that delivers 60 cv in the rear axle. It can lead the vehicle to a top speed of 130 km/h and, with its 30 l fuel tank, can carry the Assystem City Car to up to 600 km. Both engines can be used together, what turns this car into a hybrid. This vehicle, albeit small, can carry up to five people and their luggage. It has a low gravity center, what enhances dynamics, its oval shape prevents serious accident consequences and, when visibility is low, a screen takes the place of the regular windshield and shows the driver infrared images of the road, guiding him/her safely to destination.

Electronics are, perhaps, the biggest growing area of Formula One technology in current times, and their existence has made bi-directional telemetry an incredible tool of the modern age. The cars operate on a "fly-by-wire" system, which means driver's controls, such as the throttle and the gearchange paddles on the steering wheel, send an electronic signal to the engine and gearbox. That electronic signal, and any others relating to set-up on the car, can now be modified from the pits, with a return burst of information. The change is indicated to the driver on an on-board display, and he must accept the change by pressing a button on the steering wheel.

A steering wheel, developed by BITS of Atlanta, that monitors drivers’ blood-alcohol level and prevents them from driving when drunk. It has optical sensors embedded around the rim of the wheel and a membrane treated with a chemical that reacts to perspiration from driver's hands continuously registering changes in the level of acidity in the sweat.
