WHEEL DRIVE SHAFT [5 records]

Record 1 2013-05-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Steering Systems (Motor Vehicles and Bicycles)
OBS

When a driver moves a steering wheel, the left and right outlet ports open alternately, then oil pressurized by a hydraulic pump enters a hydraulic cylinder. It generates power to drive the steering shaft. In this process, the hydraulic pump driven by the engine rotates only in one direction.

Key term(s)
  • hydraulic-assisted steering

French

Domaine(s)
  • Direction (Véhicules automobiles et bicyclettes)
Key term(s)
  • direction hydraulique

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Sistemas de dirección (Vehículos automotores y bicicletas)
CONT

La dirección hidráulica utiliza energía hidráulica para generar la asistencia. Para ello utiliza una bomba hidráulica conectada al motor. Lo habitual es que esté acoplada directamente mediante la faja de distribución.

OBS

HPS, por sus siglas en inglés.

Record 2 2002-09-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cooling and Ventilating Systems
DEF

A finned aluminium cooling wheel mounted on the fan shaft between the inboard bearing and the drive panel to dissipate heat conducted along the shaft.

CONT

Exhausters of standard construction will withstand gas temperature up to 750 F but will require bearing protection for temperatures in excess of 300 F. A heat slinger which is a small heat-conducting fan wheel attached to the shaft between the fan housing and the inboard bearing, will protect bearings up to 600 F temperature.

  • Aeroindustry
DEF

A shaft formed with alternating longitudinal grooves and ribs, engaging corresponding shapes in the centre of a wheel or the like, to allow endwise movement of the latter while the drive is continuously transmitted.

DEF

a splined shaft; specif: one having a number of equally spaced grooves cut in the shaft so as to form a series of projecting keys and fitting into an internally grooved cylindrical member.
