Active steering gives drivers more precise handling and tracking : this ensures that their automobiles are more mobile and agile even on twisting roads. A planetary gear is integrated with the steering column; depending on the situation, the feature varies the angle of steering determined by the user at the wheel(superimposed steering). It increases the steering angle at lower and mid-range speeds; by contrast, at higher speeds(e. g. on motorways), the steering angle is reduced. When parking, the active steering feature makes it easier to manoeuvre by amplifying the movements of the steering wheel. 2, record 12, English, - active%20steering

3, record 12, French, - direction%20active

An optical guidance system is the simplest... of the three types of guidance systems. By using a line(either painted or pressure-sensitive tape) that contrasts in color with the floor, a light-sensing unit in the guidance system causes the steering wheel to follow the line. The towpath must be kept clean, as any paper or other object that obscures the guideline can cause the unit to stop. Optical guidance is most useful when routes have to be changed periodically. 2, record 27, English, - optical%20guidance%20system

... the TSB [Transportation Safety Board of Canada] analyzed specifically the aircraft steering system, while not ignoring the other factors mentioned above, although no indication was found that they could have contributed to the occurrence. To steer the aircraft on the ground, the pilot in the left seat uses the nose-gear steering wheel on the console to the pilot's left. During take-off and landing, directional control of the aircraft is maintained solely by the rudder. The aircraft's ground steering system comprises several components, including the nose-gear steering wheel, a system of cables and pulleys, and a steering control valve fitted to a nose-wheel steering cylinder, which is attached to the nose-wheel strut. The cable and pulley system links the steering wheel to the control valve. When the pilot turns the steering wheel to the left or right, tension is applied to the cables connected to the pulley on the steering control valve. This action determines the direction and the deflection rate of the nose wheel by allowing hydraulic fluid to enter one side or the other side of the nose-wheel steering cylinder; the steering cylinder then deflects the nose wheel through a system of gears. 3, record 30, English, - aircraft%20steering%20system

4, record 30, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20d%27orientation

Electronics are, perhaps, the biggest growing area of Formula One technology in current times, and their existence has made bi-directional telemetry an incredible tool of the modern age. The cars operate on a "fly-by-wire" system, which means driver's controls, such as the throttle and the gearchange paddles on the steering wheel, send an electronic signal to the engine and gearbox. That electronic signal, and any others relating to set-up on the car, can now be modified from the pits, with a return burst of information. The change is indicated to the driver on an on-board display, and he must accept the change by pressing a button on the steering wheel.

1, record 43, French, - t%C3%A9l%C3%A9m%C3%A9trie%20bi%2Ddirectionnelle

A steering wheel, developed by BITS of Atlanta, that monitors drivers’ blood-alcohol level and prevents them from driving when drunk. It has optical sensors embedded around the rim of the wheel and a membrane treated with a chemical that reacts to perspiration from driver's hands continuously registering changes in the level of acidity in the sweat. When these levels rise above the normal range, the optical sensors note the danger color and the car engine shuts off. The sobriety wheel could be as common as the air bag within ten years. 1, record 53, English, - sobriety%20wheel

Generally bikes with a short wheelbase, steep angles, and high bottom brackets are designed for manoeuvrability and sprinting; those with a longer wheelbase and shallow angles are designed for touring and easy riding. Angles today run from about 70° to 74°, wheel bases from 38" to 42", and bottom bracket heights from 10½" to 11". Steep angles apparently give better steering, short wheelbases give both a sharper turn for a given front-wheel angle and easier acceleration when sprinting. High bottom brackets enable you to take a turn at maximum speed and keep on pedaling without scraping the inside pedal on the ground. 3, record 58, English, - bottom%20bracket%20height

Optional MFD gives you four wheel pulling for the extra traction and reduces rolling resistance needed to keep going in wet, rough, soft or hilly conditions. Further it assists in maintaining positive steering control in adverse field conditions. Operated in conjunction with standard differential lock, mechanical front wheel drive helps control wheel slippage in spots where 2-wheel drive tractors may slip and skid. 1, record 64, English, - mechanical%20front%20wheel%20drive
