Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) is an ongoing lung condition caused by damage to the lungs. The damage results in swelling and irritation, also called inflammation, inside the airways that limit airflow into and out of the lungs. This limited airflow is known as obstruction. Symptoms include trouble breathing, a daily cough that brings up mucus and a tight, whistling sound in the lungs called wheezing. COPD is most often caused by long-term exposure to irritating smoke, fumes, dust or chemicals. The most common cause is cigarette smoke.... Although COPD is a condition that can get worse over time, COPD is treatable. 5, record 1, English, - chronic%20obstructive%20pulmonary%20disease

Asthma is a prevalent chronic inflammatory respiratory condition affecting millions of people worldwide and presents substantial challenges in both diagnosis and management. This respiratory condition is characterized by inflammation of the airways, causing intermittent airflow obstruction and bronchial hyperresponsiveness. The hallmark asthma symptoms include coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath, which can frequently be exacerbated by triggers ranging from allergens to viral infections. 2, record 2, English, - asthma

2, record 2, French, - asthme

In 1983, physicians at National Jewish reported a new condition that may mimic asthma. This condition is called Vocal Cord Dysfunction, or VCD. VCD causes asthma-like symptoms because of an abnormal closing of the vocal cords. VCD can cause difficulty breathing and even wheezing. Based on these symptoms, many people with VCD may be diagnosed with asthma and treated with asthma medications, including oral steroids... Common symptoms include a chronic cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, throat tightness, "difficulty getting air in", hoarseness and wheezing... A specific breathing test called a flow volume loop, can be helpful in showing VCD, especially on the "breathing in" or inspiratory part of the loop. 1, record 8, English, - vocal%20cord%20dysfunction

Ipratropium.... belongs to the group of medicines known as antimuscarinic bronchodilators. Ipratropium can be used to treat symptoms of chronic bronchitis and some cases of asthma. Bronchodilators work by opening up the air passages in the lungs so that air can flow into the lungs more freely. In doing so they help to relieve symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. 2, record 13, English, - ipratropium

Every August, in certain temperate parts of North America, the ragweed plant inaugurates another season of human misery.... A specific breathing test called a flow volume loop, can be helpful in swhowing VCD, especially on the "breathing in" or inspiratory part of the loop. 1, record 16, English, - flow%20volume%20loop
