A kisbie ring in general is a piece of life saving equipment that almost all ships carry. We have 4 stations onboard fitted with smoke markers, kisbie rings and other equipment which lookouts throw overboard in the event of a man overboard. As a piece of rescue equipment, these are painted orange and have the ships name on them in black in accordance with Canadian and international law. When alongside in home or foreign port, we use our ceremonial kisbie rings... in the 4 stations for decoration. We also have the stand and kisbie ring at the brow where you come aboard our ship as a welcome aboard sign and identifier. 2, record 1, English, - Kisbie%20ring

Infiltration flooding. After a few days of steady rain, when spring snow-melt occurs or during an extreme rainfall event, the soil around [the] home can become saturated with water. Steady snow-melt and precipitation can also raise the ground water level to a point where it is higher than [the] basement floor. This groundwater can infiltrate into basements through cracks in basement walls(or foundation walls) and cracks in basement floors. Infiltration flooding can be a significant problem in older homes where mortar has weakened over the years and cracks have developed in stone or cinder block foundations. 1, record 12, English, - infiltration%20flooding

An expectancy or chance is a mere hope, unfounded in any limitation, provision, trust, or legal act whatever; such as the hope which an heir apparent has of succeeding to the ancestor's estate. This is sometimes said to be a bare or mere possibility, and, at other times, less than a possibility. It is a possibility in the popular sense of the term. But it is less than a possibility in the specific sense of the term possibility. For, it is no right at all, in contemplation of law, even by possibility; because, in the case of a mere expectancy, nothing has been done to create an obligation in any event; and where there is no obligation, there can be no right....(Fearne, 10th ed., 1844, pp. 23-24) 1, record 49, English, - expectancy

Where in his will the testator appoints more than one executor, any of the executors may obtain a grant without notice to the others, and in this event power will be reserved to the others to apply for a grant later. Where that person subsequently does apply for a grant, it will be called "double probate".(Mellows, "The Law of Succession", 3rd ed., 1977, p. 348) 1, record 52, English, - double%20probate

Atmospheric diving suits... They can be used for very deep dives, 600 metres/2000 feet, for many hours without the normal hazards of depth, such as the decompression sickness or nitrogen narcosis. They look like suits of armour, with elaborate pressure joints to allow articulation while resisting the large difference between the inside and outside pressure. They are often constructed from aluminium, weigh around 250 kg/500 pounds and have propellors allowing them to move in water. Often they are lowered from a support vessel, which supplies breathing gas, electric power and communications to the suit through an umbilical cable. The suit may incorporate a rebreather-type breathing system in the event of an emergency where the umbilical supply fails. 2, record 53, English, - atmospheric%20diving%20suit

An American from Chicago named Lodner D. Phillips designed the first completely enclosed atmospheric diving suit in 1856. His design consisted of a barrel-shaped upper torso with domed ends and was the first to incorporate ball and socket type joints in the articulated arms and legs. No record exists to indicate the Phillips suit was ever built, but many features of the design can be seen in similar more successful suits over a half century later. 3, record 53, English, - atmospheric%20diving%20suit

The general principle with which construction commences is that all words importing futurity, whether conditional or merely temporal, make a gift "prima facie" contingent. Thus, where property is given to a person "if", or "provided that", a specified event occurs, the gift will be contingent, but it will also be contingent if words such as "at", or "upon" the occurrence of the event, or "when", "as", or "from and after" its occurrence are used. Hence, a gift "to A when he shall attain the age of 25 years", is "prima facie" contingent.(Anger & Honsberger, 2nd ed., 1985, p. 364) 1, record 55, English, - contingent%20gift

Such an accident might include damage to nuclear plant leading to major on-site recovery problems such as partial core melt in a power reactor and comparable events at non-reactor installations. Festival by the Sea originated as the cultural component of the Canada Games in 1985. This event included many fine facilities devoted to the athletes but perhaps more importantly, created an environment where people came to believe and expect that Saint John could produce and support excellence. In the mid-1950s, daffodils were chosen to decorate the tables at a tea hosted by Lady Eaton in the downtown Toronto Eaton's store to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. The event was so popular that Canadian Cancer Society volunteers in Toronto created an annual Daffodil Day. The Daffodil Tea became an established event in many communities across the province. On Daffodil Day, some restaurants donated part of their receipts to the Canadian Cancer Society and patrons were given a daffodil as a token of appreciation. When restaurant patrons began offering to pay for their daffodils, Society volunteers realized they could raise funds by selling flowers. The following year, volunteers took to the streets to sell daffodils to the general public. An anonymous donor paid to fly 5, 000 blooms from British Columbia, where the growing season starts early. Daffodil sales raised more than $1, 200 in 1957 and became an annual event. Daffodil Day was eventually extended to Daffodil Days--usually from Thursday to the first Sunday in April. Daffodil fundraising now takes place throughout Canada and across North America, Europe and Australia. 1, record 77, English, - Daffodil%20Days

1, record 77, French, - Jours%20de%20la%20jonquille
