WIRELINE TOOLS [6 records]

Record 1 2007-08-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
DEF

Condition for working coiled tubing through a pressurized stripper, where wellbore pressure applied against the cross-sectional area of the tube creates an upward acting force greater than the weight of the tubing in the wellbore.

CONT

Snubbing usually requires an array of wireline blocks and wire rope that forces the pipe or tools into the well through a stripper head or blowout preventer until the weight of the string is sufficient to overcome the lifting effect of the well pressure on the pipe in the stripper.

OBS

snubbing: A term used to describe the process of removing or installing pipe into a pressurized well bore, using specialized equipment including blowout preventers in a special arrangement.

OBS

In this condition, mechanical assistance is required to apply thrust to the tubing while injecting or to maintain control of the tubing when extracting. This condition is commonly called "light pipe operations."

OBS

pressure control: commonly referred to as snubbing; running of tool and/or pulling of tubing under well pressure.

Record 2 2004-07-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
CONT

... every operator shall take a sufficient number of types of porosity-measuring wireline logs in any well so that any effect of shaliness, hydrocarbons, complex lithology and the walls of the hole can be compensated for in determining the porosity of any formation.

OBS

wireline log : A continuous measurement of formation properties with electrically powered instruments to infer properties and make decisions about drilling and production operations. The record of the measurements, typically a long strip of paper, is also called a log. Measurements include electrical properties(resistivity and conductivity at various frequencies), sonic properties, active and passive nuclear measurements, dimensional measurements of the wellbore, formation fluid sampling, formation pressure measurement, wireline-conveyed sidewall coring tools, and others.

Key term(s)
  • porosity measuring wireline log

Domaine(s)
  • Forage des puits de pétrole
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
DEF

A continuous measurement of formation properties with electrically powered instruments to infer properties and make decisions about drilling and production operations ...

CONT

A log is the recording of one physical property of the formation crossed through by a borehole or of the geometric characteristics of the hole or casing or the flow behavior of a well as a function of depth. Wireline logging is performed with a sonde or probe lowered into the borehole or well, usually after the drillstring has been withdrawn.

OBS

Measurements include electrical properties... sonic properties, active and passive nuclear measurements, dimensional measurements of the wellbore, formation fluid sampling, formation pressure measurement, wireline-conveyed sidewall coring tools, and others. In wireline measurements, the logging tool(or sonde) is lowered into the open wellbore on a multiple conductor, contra-helically armored wireline. Once lowered to the bottom of the interval of interest, the measurements are taken on the way out of the wellbore. This is done in an attempt to maintain tension on the cable(which stretches) as constant as possible for depth correlation purposes... Most wireline measurements are recorded continuously even though the sonde is moving.

  • Forage des puits de pétrole
DEF
