A general term for a compact, siliceous conglomerate of vein-quartz pebbles of about the size of a pigeon’s egg, embedded in a quartzitic matrix. 2, record 1, English, - banket
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The term was originally applied in the Witwatersrand area of South Africa to the mildly metamorphosed gold-bearing conglomerates containing muffin-shaped quartz pebbles and resembling an almond cake made by the Boers. 2, record 1, English, - banket
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 OBS
Originally applied by the Dutch settlers to the gold-bearing conglomerates of the Witwatersrand. It is now used more widely for similar conglomerates and conglomeratic quartzites. 3, record 1, English, - banket

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
5, record 1, French, - banket
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
6, record 1, French, - banket

The Blind River area has... been closely studied and here the uranium deposits appear to have been laid down in a fluviatile or deltaic environment perhaps during a wet period preceding an ice age. Unlike the Witwatersrand, the host conglomerates are now at the base of the enclosing arenaceous succession and they appear to occupy valleys eroded in the softer greenstones of the metamorphic basement... 3, record 2, English, - metamorphic%20basement

Gold-uranium Conglomerates.-The establishment of sedimentary basins allowed the formation of these deposits. The best known example is that of the Witwatersrand Basin with its widespread gold-uranium conglomerates..., but other examples are known along the north shore of Lake Huron in Canada(Blind River area), at Serra de Jacobina in Brazil and at localities in Australia and Ghana. These deposits represent a unique metallogenic event which many feel has not been repeated because a reducing atmosphere was a sine qua non for the preservation of the detrital uranium minerals and pyrite. 2, record 5, English, - gold%2Duranium%2Dbearing%20conglomerate
