Skills Shortages assists employers to meet their critical needs for qualified workers in designated occupational skills, particularly non-traditional occupations. Every effort is being made to increase the participation of women in these occupations. Since December 1991, this program has been grouped with the Skills Shortages as Workplace-Based Training under the Labour Market Adjustment Program components of the new Canadian Labour Force Development Strategy.

Ottawa-Carleton Health Department, Program Training and Consultation Centre. This self-help program for pregnant Francophone women focuses on the various stages of readiness to quit smoking and the specific concerns of expectant mothers. The program consists of five booklets that were developed through pilot testing in the francophone community. Each of the five booklets addresses a different stage of readiness to quit from not thinking about quitting all the way to maintaining the decision to stay an ex-smoker. A brief quiz helps the pregnant smoker to determine her stage of readiness and directs her to the appropriate booklet. The length of the program is therefore variable.

Ce programme d'entraide pour les femmes enceintes francophones met l'accent sur les diverses étapes de la prise de décision de renoncer au tabagisme et sur les préoccupations particulières des femmes enceintes. Le programme comporte cinq livrets qui ont été élaborés sur la base d'essais menés au sein de la communauté francophone. Chacun des cinq livrets traite d'une étape différente de la prise de décision, soit à partir du moment où la participante n'envisage pas encore à cesser de fumer jusqu'au maintien de sa décision de demeurer non-fumeuse. Un bref questionnaire aide la fumeuse enceinte à déterminer à quelle étape elle se trouve et la dirige vers le livret qui lui convient. La durée du programme est donc variable.

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union(RWDSU) represents approximately 6000 Saskatchewan working women and men throughout Saskatchewan. Our members include workers at retails stores such as IGA, Canada Safeway, O. K. Economy and Co-operative Associations. A number of Credit Union employees belong to the Union as do workers in farm implement manufacturing, warehousing, dairies, poultry processing, laundries, soft drink production, sign making and casinos. Hundreds of service employees in business such as the Imperial 400 in Saskatoon, the Regina Centre of Arts, the Regina Exhibition as well as restaurant and cafeteria workers and Brinks employees are also proud members of the Union.
