It was Bechdel' s modest proposal for assessing how well a given film represented its female characters, and it went like so : Do you, movie, feature two or more named women? Do they talk to each other? About something besides a guy? If so, then congratulations! You have passed the Bechdel test.

CONT

Produced for the National Film Board of Canada by Parker Film Associates for Fitness and Amateur Sports of Canada. Your Move is about participation in all kinds of sports by women of all ages. Myths, taboos, conventions of dress, and "proper" behavior have for centuries prevented women from enjoying recreational sport. Accepting society's assumption that physical activity was "unfeminine", women remained the eternal spectators. Women and attitudes are changing, but old myths die hard. When this film was made in 1973, forty-seven percent of Canadian women still ranked in the "low-to-fair" fitness category. The film shows women taking part in a variety of physical activities, competitive and non-competitive, and discussing the benefits for themselves.

This striking documentary of the National Film Board of Canada pays tribute to the importance of women farmers to the agricultural economy, and recognizes the invisible subsidy their labor provides to consumers.
