Among the societal factors that influence rates of violence are those that create an acceptable climate for violence. … The silence and inhibition of those who know, and victim blaming attitudes, contribute to create a climate of tolerance that reduces inhibitions against violence, makes it more difficult for women to come forward, and promotes social passivity. … A public education effort is needed to break the silence, to reduce social tolerance, and to increase the level of social responsibility by promoting individual and collective action regarding domestic violence against women. … Zero tolerance campaigns, involving local organisations, community groups, academics, and a highly visible media campaign with the aim of challenging social attitudes towards violence against women by their intimate partners, are a good example of a public education effort to change the social climate of silence, tolerance and inhibition. 2, record 4, English, - social%20tolerance

A gender-based analysis(GBA) is a tool to both understand the local context and to support gender equality. A GBA examines the relationships between men and women, girls and boys, their access to resources, their activities, and the constraints they face relative to each other in a particular context. It identifies the varied roles played by women and men, girls and boys in the household, community, workplace, political processes and economy. These different roles often result in women having less access to and control over resources, and less participation and influence in decision-making processes. A GBA also considers how other intersecting identity factors such as race, ethnicity, LGBTQ2I [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, intersex], legal status, ability, language, religion, socio-economic status, and education, affect individual and group experiences, including among women and among men. Gender equality is not exclusively about women's or girls’ issues and is not only about working with or for women and girls. Men's and boys’ engagement is critical. 5, record 5, English, - gender%2Dbased%20analysis

7, record 5, French, - analyse%20comparative%20entre%20les%20sexes

Research that takes the gender dimension into account is found in most scientific disciplines. For instance, a legal research project may investigate how gender-neutral legal rules affect women and men differently. An example of this is the effect of retirement pension rules. In many countries the rules are universal and gender neutral, and pensions are based on previous income. In practice, however, this theoretically gender‑neutral rule may have different outcomes for women and men. Women who have worked part-time or stayed at home to take care of children receive much lower pensions than men(and women) who have worked full-time. In legal research, the gender dimension involves exploring how gender relations influence the distribution of rights and duties, benefits and disadvantages, legal protection and punishment. 2, record 6, English, - gender%20dimension

The influence of the Aboriginal struggle for self-determination is a critical environmental factor for the assessment of Aboriginal federally sentenced women. For example, the recent founding of the Aboriginal Women's Caucus, with its mandate to speak on behalf of Aboriginal women in conflict with the law, can be seen as a structural articulation of the link made by Aboriginal women between self-determination and corrections. The conclusion is inescapable that if women generally are disadvantaged by social stereotypes and economic disparities, Aboriginal women suffer discrimination within discrimination through the addition of racial stereotypes. However, this conclusion has not yet been explicity incorporated within government thinking. 1, record 11, English, - Aboriginal%20Women%27s%20Caucus

1, record 11, French, - Assembl%C3%A9e%20des%20femmes%20autochtones
