Lobular carcinoma in situ(LCIS) is not a cancer, but its presence means that there is a small increase in the risk of developing breast cancer later in life. Les carcinomes lobulaires in situ sont considérés comme dénotant un risque accru de cancer du sein plutôt que comme un cancer à proprement parler. Ils sont souvent décelés dans les biopsies du sein. Lorsque cela se produit, les deux seins sont dorénavant sujets à un risque accru de cancer. Une surveillance régulière, comportant deux examens cliniques des seins et deux mammographies annuels, est essentielle. Les femmes atteintes de CLIS pourraient envisager un traitement préventif au tamoxifène ou, dans certains cas, une mastectomie bilatérale prophylactique (excision préventive des deux seins).
