Water transfer printing... is a surface decorating process with which elaborate graphics – such as wood grain, carbon fiber, camouflage, geometrical designs, etc. – are applied to a 3D [three-dimensional] product surface.... The process utilizes a water-soluble film that contains the printed patterns. The film dissolves in the water and leaves the ink on the surface. In the typical process, the item to be printed is first coated with a primer or an adhesion promoter. After this dries, a base coat paint is applied to control the hue of the pattern. For instance, wood grain prints often utilize a brown base coat, and many camouflage patterns use a neutral base. After the base coat is applied, the item is ready for decorating. The film is activated using a chemical activator. The item then is dipped into the water, and the ink wraps around it. 5, record 1, English, - hydrographics

Material and product design incorporating agro-based materials goes beyond applications like thatched roofs, wattle façades and other examples harking back to older days. Its goal is to use proven and new technologies and make such composites that satisfy the demanded functional specifications while containing a high degree of environmental friendliness. The first applications of agro based materials in the building industry may be found in insulation and interior decoration. The Dutch market offers insulation materials based on waste paper(including Isofloc and Isocell). Flax insulation mats are produced in the Netherlands by Eco Fiber. Hemp is another material suitable for insulation mats. Hemp is better resistant to moisture than flax. But as yet there has not been much experience with applications of this material in the building industry. The use of coconut fibers as insulation material offers several benefits such as a low energy content and high insulation value. The material is naturally highly moisture resistant. Insulation materials can be treated with halogen-free cellulose fire retardant. To preserve the material, the fibers can be treated just like wood with boric salt. Another technology is to treat cellulose fibers via the so-called PLATO(Proving Lasting Advanced Timber Option) process. This involves heating the fibers in an autoclave under 14 atmosphere pressure to about 200 degrees Celsius. In this process the lignin and the hemi-cellulose in the fiber chemically react generating a water resistant bakelite-type of resin-compound around the remaining cellulose. 2, record 6, English, - agro%2Dbased%20material

Wood processing waste : The forestry industry harvests and collects wood for two major ends :fiber for pulp(and eventually paper) and for chip board and the stronger oriented strand board(OSB), as well as lumber for the construction industry.... There is, however, a fairly significant portion of the timber that is transported to mills that goes to waste : cut-ends, sawdust, rejected wood that is too warped, pulp batches that are unsaleable.... For pulp fibers, many of the diagnostic features of cell formation seen in wood samples are lost. However, positive identification is possible by following a logical sequence of exclusion, and finally comparing unknown fibers with authenticated fiber samples and/or photomicrographs. The technique is straightforward, especially where only a limited number of choices are possible. The principal diagnostic feature is the shape and orientation of the cell wall openings(pits) in softwood earlywood tracheids and hardwood vessels which are unique for each species. 1, record 48, English, - ray%20crossing%20pits

The dry-process technique, used for products such as medium-density fiberboard, reduces the wood to fiber and forms the basic mat by a dry-sifting process. In contrast, the wet-process fiberboards carry the fiber in an aqueous suspension and form the mat, now called a wet lap, by draining the fiber suspension on a screen. The wet lap is then placed in a hot press, which has a screen, like a flyscreen, on the bottom side, permitting escape of the water that is squeezed out of the lap by hydraulic pressure in the press. The screen also permits escape of the steam generated in the final stages of the hot-pressing operation. The resulting product is then called screen-back hardboard, or smooth-one-side(S1S) hardboard. 1, record 50, English, - smooth%2Done%2Dside%20hardboard

For hardboard, those boards made with fiber refined at atmospheric pressure must also be significantly higher in specific gravity as compared to the wood species used for generating the furnish. With the relatively new pressure-refined fiber, however, it is possible to produce medium-density boards using fiber from species having specific gravities much closer to that of the final board....
