Capillary Rise of Ground Moisture : Moisture travels upward by capillary action--as much as 14 to 18 gallons per day have been noted under a 1, 000 square-foot house--and evaporates within the crawl space. Capillary rise occurs in nearly all areas where the soil is clay or silt. Capillary action is the effect of surface tension that causes water to rise up a narrow tube, against the effect of gravity. In building construction, capillary action can occur between two surfaces placed together, or within porous materials. This relates to the installation of wood flooring in that moisture can be drawn through both the subfloor and the concrete below it. 4, record 9, English, - capillary%20rise%20of%20soil%20moisture

This is a fire of first importance--a fundamental fire used in many other lays and an unexcelled fire in itself. No arrangement of wood will burn so effectively, for none admits so much air to every stick from all directions. And no other fire will burn down to a uniformly spread bed of coals in so short a time. First place the tinder--birch bark, fuzz-stick, etc.--on the ground and build a tiny wigwam fire above it not over six inches high. Now place four base poles, each two inches thick and a foot long, around it, the corners overlapping log-cabin style. Over this lower course, stack up finger-and-thumb-size sticks of hardwood in crisscross fashion bringing the structure up to ten or twelve inches in height. 1, record 13, English, - crisscross%20fire
Record number: 13, Textual support number: 2 OBS
There are actually 3 types of the crisscross fire, but they do not have a specific name. However, the term "log cabin fire" has been used as a synonym for all three. But the term properly designates another type of fire. It is actually the beginning of a crisscross fire that does not have the logs stacked in the crisscross fashion over the tiny wigwam fire, but rather has them stacked around the wigwam fire log cabin style. 3, record 13, English, - crisscross%20fire

For projects using brick, make certain you have a brick trowel, brick chisel, mason's hammer, 4 ft. level, tape measure, pointing trowel, jointing tool, mason's line, wood line blocks and spirit level. The height and thickness of your walls are always important... Be sure to leave a space between bricks for your joint. This method is best to determine the spacing of your bricks. Then, drive a stake in the ground at both ends of your wall and stretch mason's line between them. The line will serve as a straight line guide and should mark the outside edge and top of your first course of bricks. Later, as you proceed, the guideline can be moved up to match each successive course of bricks. Line blocks can be used to hold line in place... When laying bricks, always start at the corners and keep the corners higher than the rest of your work. Work from the corners toward the center of your wall. Use the level frequently to check level and plumb. As the wall increases in height, move the line blocks up to the ends of your corner lead. 2, record 31, English, - line%20block

Densified Pellet Technology. Pellets are dried ground wood or other biomass waste compressed into small cylinders about 6 mm(1/4 in.) in diameter and 25 mm(1 in.) long. The pressure and heat created during their production binds the pellets together without the need for additives. Pellet-burning appliances include a hopper to hold at least 20 kg of fuel and a screw auger to move the pellets from the hopper into the combustion chamber. Pellets usually burn cleanly because they are fed to the combustion chamber at a controlled rate and are matched with the right amount of combustion air. These appliances are generally able to operate at lower emission levels than natural firewood appliances. 2, record 32, English, - densified%20pellet

Mokume-Ji : A Japanese metal art which produces a ground resembling grained wood. In this process several thin metal plates are beaten together. The plate is then punched from one side so that the opposite side resembles broken blisters. These blisters are hammered down until each produces its own wave effect. Although iron was generally used, the finest work was in shakudo with a gold graining. 3, record 40, English, - mokume%20gane
