Cribbing is essential in many extrication operations. Its most common use is to stabilize objects. Wood selected for cribbing should be solid, straight and free of major flaws such as large knots or splits. Cribbing surfaces should be free of any paint or finish because this can make the wood slippery, especially when it is wet. Cribbing can be made out of pieces of timber found in the debris and cut to size.... Cribbing involves multiple pieces of wood laid on the side and crossed. It spreads the load well and has many load transfer surfaces. It also has lateral stability depending on the ratio of width to height. The height should not be more than three times the width. 1, record 2, English, - cribbing

1, record 2, French, - calage

Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Dry distillation is the heating of solid materials to produce liquid or gaseous products (which may condense into solids). The method may or may not involve pyrolysis/thermolysis. The products are condensed and collected. This method usually requires higher temperatures than classical distillation. The method has been used to obtain liquid fuels from coal and wood. 2, record 7, English, - dry%20distillation
Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 OBS
In this process the substance operated upon is invariably a solid, the vapours being condensed and collected as in the other methods. When the substance operated upon is of uncertain composition, as, for example, coal, wood, coal-tar, etc., the term "destructive distillation" is employed. A more general designation is "pyrogenic processes, "which also includes such operations as leading vapours through red-hot tubes and condensing the products. 3, record 7, English, - dry%20distillation

2, record 13, French, - proc%C3%A9d%C3%A9%20au%20bisulfite%20acide

Color removal. The brown color of pulp mill effluents originates with the wood handling, chemical pulping and bleaching operations, and is due to the presence of tannin and lignin derivatives. These compounds are slow to biodegrade and are usually little affected by conventional secondary treatment methods. Changes in plant design(e. g., elimination of wet debarking, bleach process modifications) have been successful in lowering effluent color, but the problem remains serious in situations where the dilution factor in the receiving water is low. 1, record 14, English, - color%20removal

1, record 14, French, - suppression%20de%20la%20couleur

Color removal. The brown color of pulp mill effluents originates with the wood handling, chemical pulping and bleaching operations, and is due to the presence of tannin and lignin derivatives.... Coagulation processes are now preferentially applied to wastewaters following secondary treatment because of more complete color removal. It has also been found that the biological process itself causes the formation of additional color. The rapid infiltration process appears to be a good choice for color removal at mill sites with suitable topography and subsoil characteristics. In this method, the wastewater is percolated through porous subsoil strata before reaching the receiving water. The color is removed by adsorption and precipitation onto soil particles. Because the soil strata becomes rather rapidly saturated, it is necessary to operate a number of basins intermittently, allowing time between dosages for regeneration of the adsorbing surfaces. 1, record 15, English, - rapid%20infiltration%20process

1, record 15, French, - infiltration%20rapide
