Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Dry distillation is the heating of solid materials to produce liquid or gaseous products(which may condense into solids). The method may or may not involve pyrolysis/thermolysis. The products are condensed and collected. This method usually requires higher temperatures than classical distillation. The method has been used to obtain liquid fuels from coal and wood. 2, record 3, English, - dry%20distillation
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
In this process the substance operated upon is invariably a solid, the vapours being condensed and collected as in the other methods. When the substance operated upon is of uncertain composition, as, for example, coal, wood, coal-tar, etc., the term "destructive distillation" is employed. A more general designation is "pyrogenic processes," which also includes such operations as leading vapours through red-hot tubes and condensing the products. 3, record 3, English, - dry%20distillation

3, record 3, French, - distillation%20s%C3%A8che

In fluidized beds and suspension gasification, there is continuous relative motion of the discrete solid particles, while in fixed bed gasifiers there is much slower stratified motion of the solid bed as a whole, generally downward by gravity. The gas can then pass either in the opposite direction to the fuel(updraft or counterflow gasifiers)... or in the same direction(downdraft or coflow gasifiers).... While fixed bed coal gasifiers are updraft, biomass gasifiers can be either updraft or downdraft, depending on the purpose for which the gas is to be used. Updraft gasifiers can use very wet wood, but because the pyrolysis products are immediately cooled, the gas contains up to 30% of tar and oil. 1, record 9, English, - updraft%20gasifier

Pyrolysis is the physical and chemical decomposition of organic matter brought about by the action of heat in the absence of oxygen... Most wood gasification systems commonly referred to as involving "pyrolysis" involve true pyrolysis as but one reaction in a multi-stage process with oxygen or air combustion being used to generate the necessary heat in another part of the reactor. 1, record 14, English, - wood%20gasification%20system
