Blue corridor. You can create a wildlife corridor by introducing hedgerows, woodland, field margins, grassland, and wetlands. Swales linking attenuation basins can provide "blue" corridors, allowing wetland wildlife to thrive through their connecting habitats. Rivers and canals are also great examples of wetland wildlife corridors. 2, record 1, English, - blue%20corridor

A ghost forest is the watery remains of a once verdant woodland. As sea level rises, more and more saltwater encroaches on the land. Along the world's coasts and estuaries, invading seawater advances and overtakes the fresh water that deciduous trees rely upon for sustenance. The salty water slowly poisons living trees, leaving a haunted ghost forest of dead and dying timber. Still standing in or near brackish water, the decaying trees of a ghost forest resemble giant graying pillars that protrude into the air. 2, record 7, English, - ghost%20forest

The new Canadian Disruptive Pattern(CADPAT) uniform is now part of the Canadian Army's identity. This high-tech clothing gives Canadian soldiers a distinct edge in camouflage survivability. Two variations of the CADPAT uniform(pants and shirt) are now available for use by [the] troops. The first is Temperate Woodland or TW, which is primarily green, black, and brown in colour, and is designed for use in North America and Europe. Arid Regions or AR is composed of three different colours of brown, and is primarily for use in desert regions. 2, record 15, English, - Canadian%20disruptive%20pattern

Alpine is the generic term applied to all plants which grow above the tree line in mountainous regions. In gardening terms, however, it covers a wide range of small hardy plants and bulbs, which are mainly perennial. If Memphis was not developed and was left alone to grow naturally, it would be forest. Many of the plants that grow best in my shady garden, then are native woodland plants. So, if big trees dominate your landscape like mine, you might have to say goodbye to perky zinnias and marigolds, day lilies, petunias and sunflowers. But you can embrace another whole world of plants. They might not be as showy as the sunlovers, but they hold a delicate charm. The boreal forest is divided into two great transcontinental belts of approximately equal size : the subarctic open lichen woodland and the closed crown forest. This major horizontal sectioning of the two areas reflects the steady dropping of temperature from south to north. The more northern subarctic lichen woodland is a handsome landscape mostly unknown to Canadians because of its few settlements and roads(and also very abundant black flies!). Northern stands of scattered spruce and jack pine, accompanied by balsam fir in Quebec, form attractive open-canopied areas carpeted with yellow, green and light grey lichens. Recently burned areas are covered with birch, blueberries and other small evergreen shrubs. 2, record 76, English, - lichen%20woodland

During the early 1900's, the Pinewood forests, including the land on which the preserve is located, were heavily logged. Virtually all virgin timber in the area was cut by 1930. The second-growth forests which emerged often were replaced by human development or converted into commercial pine plantations. Also, detrimental to the area's native species was the human suppression of wild fires. These fires once played an important role in the region's ecology by maintaining an open woodland and limiting hardwood encroachment. 3, record 78, English, - encroachment
