Your reach envelope is the work area you are able to access without excessive reaching. This area is specific to every individual and depends on body size, but generally the normal reach area is about 18 inches from the body.

The neck, shoulders and arms are common sites for repetitive strain injuries. Injuries to these areas typically occur from overreaching during repetitive work tasks. The ideal work area is arranged so that all frequently used items are within the "reach envelope. "In a seated position the reach envelope is the fan-shaped area described by the bent elbows pivoting at the hips with the shoulders dropped and relaxed.
