WORK FLOW CONTROL [6 records]

Record 1 2025-03-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Non-Surgical Treatment
  • Chemistry
DEF

An ammonia-based preparation used as a stimulant by athletes or to revive a person who fainted.

OBS

Historically, smelling salts contained ammonium carbonate and perfume; modern preparations typically consist of ammonia dissolved in water and ethanol, sometimes infused with a scented oil, such as eucalyptus. The salts release ammonia gas that irritates the nose and lung membranes, triggering an inhalation reflex, which prompts the muscles that control breathing to work faster and helps restore oxygen flow to the brain and body.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitements non chirurgicaux
  • Chimie
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Occupation Names (General)
  • Inventory and Material Management
OBS

[Inventory control technicians coordinate] and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments of an establishment according to production schedule. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work, inventory levels, costs, and production problems.

  • Engineering
  • Occupational Health and Safety
CONT

Industrial safety engineers are most concerned with the way in which a production process is carried out, with a heavy focus on the safety of people and machines during manufacturing. This type of industrial engineering involves the development and monitoring of safe production systems and the assessment and correction of risky work situations, such as hazardous exposures and employee accidents. An industrial safety engineer plans strategies to control work flow safely, creates and communicates these plans to others, and assesses the success of these organizational goals.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Energy (Physics)
  • Wind Energy
DEF

The power control of a wind turbine using stall.

CONT

The two principal means of limiting rotor power in high operational wind speeds-stall regulation and pitch regulation... Stall regulated machines require speed regulation. As wind speed increases, providing the rotor speed is held constant, flow angles over the blade sections... The blades become increasingly stalled and this limits power to acceptable levels without any additional active control. For this to work, the speed of the WT [wind turbine] rotor must be held essentially constant and this is achieved through the connection of the electric generator to the grid.

Domaine(s)
  • Énergie (Physique)
  • Énergie éolienne
DEF

Record 5 2005-02-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launchers (Astronautics)
CONT

... a recoverable launcher can reliably approach an orbiting platform such as the space station and safely attach to it.

CONT

As part of its work on the next recoverable launcher, NASA has successfully hot-fire tested electromechanical actuator technology. Electro-mechanical actuators electronically regulate the propellant(fuel and oxidiser) flow in the engine. The new technology is a potential improvement to the older pneumatic and hydraulic-fluid systems currently used by the aerospace industry to drive and control critical rocket engine valves.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Lanceurs (Astronautique)
DEF
