While many survive in the wild, animals that are kept in various sorts of enclosures rely on animal attendants to feed, water and care for them. You may be surprised to learn that animal attendants are employed by a wide range of organisations, including veterinary clinics, catteries, kennels, horse stables, zoos and animal shelters. While their tasks will vary from establishment to establishment, there are lots of similarities in their work.

The Gelderland, also known as the Gelderlander, is a warmblood horse which originated in the sandy, mid-eastern province of the same name in the Netherlands. Gelderland horses trace their ancestry to native mares of the Gelderland province who where crossed with Andalusian, Neapolitan, Norman, Norfolk Roadster and Holstein stallions. In the nineteenth century East Friesian, Oldenburg, Hackney and Thoroughbred blood was introduced. Gelderlanders were originally bred as utility horses, to work the land as well as provide transportation. Today, the Gelderland is an elegant carriage horse and also possesses talent as a show jumper. Its action is flowing and the breed has an effective high-stepping trot.

Finnish horse is the only native breed of horse in Finland. It is a descendant of the northern European domestic horse with both warmblood and heavier draft influences. This breed is also known as Finnish Universal because it is able to fulfill all the needs for horses in Finland. It is the fastest cold-blooded trotter in the world, it is capable of pulling heavier loads than many larger draft horse breeds, and it is a versatile riding horse. In 1924 it was ordered that breeding of the Finnhorse be divided into two branches. Breeding of the heavy type for agricultural and forestry work continued with increased attention to developing a lighter type suitable for riding and racing.

Canter on the outside lead, performed [unintentionally].

CONT

In the false canter (Counter Canter) or the canter on the wrong lead, the horse leads with the outside foreleg instead of the inside foreleg as he should.

CONT

The counter canter refers to the horse’s ability to take the unnatural lead. In a circle to the right the horse would counter canter in his left lead, in a circle to the left he’d be on the right lead. When used properly, the counter canter can be a tool to encourage the horse to travel with an improved capacity for straightness, balance and rated cadence or speed ... The counter canter or a disunited lead can crop up when a horse is positioned incorrectly for a canter depart or lead change. Make sure you’ve asked for the counter canter when it shows up.

CONT

Melissa Cannon has a lovely horse in Northern Express but today is not their day, the horse losing balance few times during the extended trot work and switching legs during the counter canter before asked.

CONT

Coming out of an extended walk that needed more on it, the horse strikes off into canter on the wrong lead but once Blair swaps his legs over the magic begins ...

OBS

In an intentional counter canter, the horse’s body is upright as the lead leg follows the bridge of the nose, which is tipped ever-so-slightly to the outside. In an accidental wrong lead, the horse’s nose is tipped to the inside of the circle causing the inside shoulder to drop when the lead is picked up. They are very different, even though the footfall is the same.

The term "counter canter" can refer to both an intentional and an incorrect lead.

For hundreds of years, the French horses bred with little influence from outside breeds. They eventually developed into their own distinct breed-the Canadian Horse or Cheval Canadien. Because they evolved under the adverse conditions of harsh weather, scarce food, and hard work, the Canadian Horse remains the sturdiest and most acclimatized horse in Canada today. They are tough, strong horses, tolerant of inclement weather conditions, and are extremely “easy keepers”. Because of these traits, the Canadian Horse is often referred to as “The Little Iron Horse”.

The grab unloader is a universal machine for unloading a large variety of bulk materials. It is a reliable work horse in harbours throughout the world. When the design and manufacturing is done correctly, their service lifetimes easily exceed 20 years. The disadvantages are spillage and dust emission to the environment... and relatively high cost on wharf construction due to the high corner loads on the water side rail.
