Quantity surveyor : Traditionally one who was concerned with the measurement and valuation of construction work, but currently the practice of quantity surveying extends well beyond these basic activities.... Modern quantity surveying is concerned with the financial and economic aspects of construction. Its activities extend from the provision, for the prospective building owner, of reports on feasibility, through early stage estimates and cost-planning of the evolving design, into the preparation of bills of quantities, the obtaining and evaluation of tenders, the negotiation of contractual arrangements and the complete administration of the financial aspects of construction contracts. Within construction firms quantity surveyors provide the commercial counterparts to the above and sometimes undertake project planning and production management.

The measurement of the space between the notches across the narrowest point of the stem or base.

Notch width is not the same as carapace width. Notch width is the distance across the carapace as measured from the notch just anterior to the 10th antero-lateral spine to the same notch on the other side. Carapace width includes the length of the spines and is measured from spine tip to spine tip across the widest portion of the shell. Notch width is the preferred measurement for scientific work because the spines tend to wear off as the shell ages. The density of liquids can be measured with acoustic techniques. This is done by measuring sound velocity and acoustic impedance of the liquid. The presented work describes a novel ultrasonic density sensor that determines the sound reflection coefficient to measure the acoustic impedance of the liquid. It aims to be suitable for industrial applications by achieving a high measurement accuracy while meeting the mechanical and chemical conditions of the process. The high accuracy is obtained with the help of an additional reference measurement inside the sensor.
