The pulp and paper manufacturing technology career combines engineering with industrial training and seeks to develop effective, organized factory systems that are both people-oriented and cost-conscious. Like other engineering technologists, [pulp and paper manufacturing technologists] focus their work in areas such as research and development, manufacturing, sales, quality control and maintenance. Therefore, they may examine the overall production process of a pulp and paper operation to determine best practices. Also, they might introduce statistical performance measurements to analyze and improve operations and determine materials handling methods.

In June 2002, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency launched a pilot project to improve the quality of bilingual communications between headquarters and regional offices in Quebec and Northern Ontario. The innovative quality management system was modeled on an ISO [International Organization for Standardization] standard. It provides for a self-assessment process that will encourage the use of both official languages in many areas : commonly used work tools; performance evaluation and supervision; grievances; administrative meetings; written and oral communications; and training. It is still too soon to determine how effective the new quality control system is.

En juin 2002, l'Agence des douanes et du revenu du Canada (ADRC) a mis sur pied un projet pilote qui vise à améliorer la qualité des communications bilingues entre ses bureaux des régions du Québec et du nord de l'Ontario et son administration centrale. Ce système de gestion de la qualité est novateur, car il a été créé en s'inspirant de l'élaboration d'une norme ISO [International Standardization Organization]. Il prévoit un processus d'autoévaluation qui encouragera l'utilisation des deux langues officielles dans plusieurs domaines : les instruments de travail d'usage courant; l'évaluation du rendement et la supervision; les griefs; les réunions administratives; les communications écrites et verbales; la formation. Il est encore trop tôt pour se prononcer sur l'efficacité de ce nouveau système de contrôle de la qualité.

The IACP(International Association of Chiefs of Police) and PARADE magazine join forces to recognize exemplary performance in police work. As one of the top law enforcement awards in the country, the Police Officer of the Year Award symbolizes the highest level of achievement among police officers. Ten additional officers are selected for honorable-mention awards. Recipients are recognized in PARADE magazine and at an awards luncheon at IACP's Annual Conference. All sworn, full-time police officers below the rank of chief are eligible. Nominations may be made for exceptional achievement in any police endeavor, including but not limited to, extraordinary valor, crime prevention, investigative work, community relations, traffic safety, drug control and prevention, juvenile programs and training efforts.
