"Fly-in/fly-out" [refers] to a set of work arrangements for resource operations that are typically located at a distance from other existing communities. The work involves a roster system in which employees spend a certain number of days working on site, after which they return to their home communities for a specified rest period. Typically the employer organizes and pays for transportation to and from the worksite and for worker accommodations and other services at or near the worksite. 2, record 12, English, - fly%2Din%20fly%2Dout%20system

guarantee. A. And "warranty". Originally the same word, "warranty" and "guarantee" (or "-ty") arrived in the language through different medieval French dialects. "Guarantee" is the broader term, ordinarily meaning either (1) "the act of giving a security; the undertaking with respect to (a contract, performance of a legal act, etc.) that it shall be duly carried out," or (2) "something given or existing as security, e.g., for fulfillment of an engagement or condition" (OED). "Warranty", as a legal term, has slightly more specific and elaborate senses: (1) "a covenant (either express or implied) annexed to a conveyance of realty by which the seller warrants the security of the title conveyed"; (2) "an assurance, express or implied, given by the seller of goods, that he will be answerable for their possession of some quality attributed to them" (the seller hereby disclaims all warranties); or (3) "in a contract for insurance, an engagement by the insured that certain statements are true or that certain conditions shall be fulfilled" (OED). B. And "guaranty". The distinction in BrE once was that the former is the verb, the latter the noun. Yet "guarantee" is now commonly used as both n. & v.t. in both AmE and BrE. In practice, "guarantee", n., is the usual term, seen often, for example, in the context of consumer warranties or other assurances of quality or performance. "Guaranty", in contrast, is now used primarily in financial and banking contexts in the sense "a promise to answer for the debt of another." "Guaranty" is now rarely seen in nonlegal writing, whether in G.B. or in the U.S. Some legal writers prefer "guaranty" in all nominal senses. 6, record 43, English, - warranty%20period

Working time accounts offer employers an additional staff management tool, and can also serve as substitutes for partial and early retirement schemes. From the employees’ standpoint, working time accounts offer attractive advantages for life and retirement planning, can help motivate staff and keep qualified staff loyal to the company. The principle behind working time accounts couldn’t be simpler : employees pay time units and/or pay components into their accounts, out of current salary, bonuses, unused holiday allowances or overtime, for example. Assets are invested gross, that is, before deducting taxes and social security contributions. Employer and employee can agree to use the assets saved up to release the employee from work for a long period of time(long-term working time account) or for early retirement(lifetime working time account). 1, record 61, English, - working%20time%20account

An increase in wages or salary means that the wage or salary amount is augmented, enlarged, or expanded. This implies that an amount was added to the wages or salary, therefore, constituting a newly agreed rate of pay for the work performed. Often an increase of salary is given retroactively. This occurs during contract renewal where workers continue to perform their duties at their former rate of pay while the contract is being negotiated. When the contract is finally signed and there is a new agreement as to an increased salary level, that new salary is often effective at an earlier date. In this case, payment must be made retroactively to compensate for the difference under the old contract and the increased salary level under the new contract. In other cases, an employer may unilaterally give an increase in salary that may also be retroactive. These retroactive increases in wages or salary are specifically excluded from consideration as earnings. 5, record 70, English, - retroactive%20pay%20increase

7, record 70, French, - augmentation%20r%C3%A9troactive%20de%20salaire

Gradual Retirement(pre-retirement). Increasingly, collective agreements contain pre-retirement or gradual retirement programs. These programs allow older workers to gradually decrease their workload, normally through a reduction in their hours of work over a period of time, before retiring and collecting their pensions. The purpose of these programs is twofold :(1) to facilitate the transition from full-time employment to retirement; and(2) to provide younger workers with the opportunity to secure full-time employment. The requirements and conditions of these programs, as well as their impact on benefits, vary from one agreement to the next. The period of time proceeding retirement within which an employee can reduce his or her workload also varies. Of the ministère des Transports of Québec. This policy deals with the selection of pavement types. It covers a five-year period and is a core component of our road system management policy. Comprehensive in approach rather than project-based, it set outs the most appropriate types of pavement for roads under the Department's jurisdiction. The analysis methodology it stipulates is a thorough, proven approach based on consistent, verifiable parameters and a transparent development process throughout. The new policy, which replaces the Policy on the Construction and Maintenance of Cement Concrete pavements in force since 1995, allows greater consideration of new technologies and road work requirements through its integrated approach under a comprehensive Québec pavement management framework. Implementation of this policy must fit with road work planning strategies and the Department's financial capabilities. In drawing up this new policy, the Department met with representatives of the concrete and asphalt industries as well as the Association des constructeurs de routes et grands travaux du Québec(Québec' s road builders’ association) in order to take their views into account. 1, record 92, English, - Departmental%20Policy%20on%20pavement%20type%20selection

1, record 92, French, - Orientation%20minist%C3%A9rielle%20sur%20le%20choix%20des%20types%20de%20chauss%C3%A9e

Knowing which vaccine to stockpile before the outbreak of a pandemic is a major problem, because you don’t know which virus will cause the pandemic. It takes months to make enough vaccine for all potential victims, and flu vaccines only last about 12 months in storage.... There are also some technical problems with making a H5N1 vaccine. H5N1 kills chickens, so the usual way of making a vaccine that relies on chicken eggs doesn’t work very well. An alternative genetically engineered virus may need to be used to produce enough vaccine in a short period of time. 1, record 93, English, - genetically%20engineered%20virus

A major challenge we faced in attempting to redefine the company's performance management and review training was that its managers are very busy. They don’t want to take two weeks out of any business quarter to practice giving reviews. Since they don’t need to use these skills every day, mastering them seems of secondary importance to their daily work. Besides, if they take a training course and then wait three months before giving their first review, they’ll probably forget everything they learned anyway. This is excatly why we felt it was so important to give managers the opportunity to practice these skills in a safe, simulated environment just before giving employee reviews. With quality computer-based training, managers could use e-learning a week before the review period to begin to brush up on their skills and prepare for the reviews. 2, record 98, English, - performance%20development%20training
