Non-exercise activity thermogenesis(NEAT) is the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise. It ranges from the energy expended walking to work, typing, performing yard work, undertaking agricultural tasks and fidgeting. Even trivial physical activities increase metabolic rate substantially and it is the cumulative impact of a multitude of exothermic actions that culminate in an individual' s daily NEAT. 3, record 1, English, - non%2Dexercise%20activity%20thermogenesis

In a remote patient monitoring system, physiological data is collected through biomedical sensors in order to evaluate the well-being of patients outside of the hospital setting. Its purpose is to move traditional clinical settings into people's homes, where they live, work, and play. In order for the appropriate decisions to be made, the data collected is wirelessly transmitted to the healthcare provider. Using this type of tele-health, physiological data such as heart rate/pulse rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation can be measured and transmitted. 1, record 2, English, - remote%20patient%20monitoring%20system

The permissible limit for inhalation of a radionuclide is the appropriate ALI [annual limit of intake]. This is given in units of activity, Bq. Because it is often easier to measure and control the concentration of radioactvity in the air than to measure or control the intake, the ALIs are used to calculate the Derived Air Concentrations(DACs). The Derived Air Concentration, or DAC for any radionuclide, is that concentration in air, expressed in Bq/m³ which, if worked in for a year(50 weeks of 40 hours each for a total of 2000 hours per year), would result in the ALI for inhalation. The normal breathing rate, based on Reference Man, is 2, 400 m³ per year at work. An increase in wages or salary means that the wage or salary amount is augmented, enlarged, or expanded. This implies that an amount was added to the wages or salary, therefore, constituting a newly agreed rate of pay for the work performed. Often an increase of salary is given retroactively. This occurs during contract renewal where workers continue to perform their duties at their former rate of pay while the contract is being negotiated. When the contract is finally signed and there is a new agreement as to an increased salary level, that new salary is often effective at an earlier date. In this case, payment must be made retroactively to compensate for the difference under the old contract and the increased salary level under the new contract. In other cases, an employer may unilaterally give an increase in salary that may also be retroactive. These retroactive increases in wages or salary are specifically excluded from consideration as earnings. 5, record 25, English, - retroactive%20pay%20increase

7, record 25, French, - augmentation%20r%C3%A9troactive%20de%20salaire

Meanwhile, solar cell is very popular as an energy source in space, and you can easily take a look at the huge solar cell panel on the ISS [International Space Station]. But the generation ability of the solar cell decreases in inversely proportional with the rate of 1. 5 power to the distance from the Sun.(The intensity of Sun ray decreases in inversely proportional with 2. 0 power to the distance from the Sun, while the generation efficiency of the solar cell increases with lowering temperature.) Therefore, if we send spacecraft to the planet farther than the Asteroid Belt(numerous small planets existing at the orbit between Mars and Jupiter) and conduct many observational work, solar cell is no longer effective. There, the Sun ray is too weak and a simulation indicates we need huge solar cell panels. 3, record 27, English, - solar%20cell

Since 1991, Canada's monetary policy framework has consisted of two main elements–an inflation target and a flexible exchange rate. This framework has allowed Canada to pursue an independent monetary policy–a policy suited to our own circumstances. The two main elements work together and reinforce each other. The result has been low and stable inflation, with less volatility in output and employment.... To summarize, our monetary policy framework has served us well in maintaining a domestic environment of growth and stability. Together with other domestic policies, it has helped Canada to adjust to some significant changes in the global economy.... Our monetary policy framework is helping the Canadian economy to absorb external shocks and to adjust to changing circumstances. 2, record 28, English, - monetary%20policy%20framework

1, record 28, French, - cadre%20de%20conduite%20de%20la%20politique%20mon%C3%A9taire

Smoke plumes that rise through the environment due to buoyancy or momentum become diluted with environmental air, where the rate of dilution is proportional to the rise rate of the plume. The entrainment coefficient is this constant of proportionality. This concept of lateral entrainment does not work well for convective thermals in the atmospheric boundary layer. One reason is that boundary layer thermals are part of a large overturning circulation involving the whole boundary layer during statically unstable conditions of free convection, rather than being thin currents of rising smokestack air. 2, record 39, English, - entrainment%20coefficient

The Starboard 0(S0) truss segment is the first major element of the International Space Station's enormous exterior framework. The S0 Truss is 13. 4 meters(44 feet) long and 4. 6 meters(15 feet) wide and weighs 12, 247 kilograms(27, 000 pounds). It is the center segment of 11 integrated trusses that will provide the foundation for station subsystem hardware installation, utility distribution, power generation, heat rejection and external payload accommodations. The S0 truss acts as the junction from which external utilities are routed to the pressurized modules by means of EVA-deployed umbilicals. The S0 truss is going to the space station with a complement of pre-integrated hardware to increase ISS functionality, including the Mobile Transporter, the Trailing Umbilical System, the Portable Work Platform, four Global Positioning System antennas, two rate gyros, an Extravehicular Charged Particle Detection System and umbilicals for U. Atlantis (STS-110, mission 8A) rejoignait l'ISS [International Space Station] pour doter la Station d'une nouvelle structure : l'Integrated Truss Structure SO (le segment central de la poutre de 91 m à terme).

The concept of productivity recognizes the interplay between various factors in the workplace. The output or results achieved may be related to different inputs or resources in the form of various productivity ratios, for example, output per labour hour, output per unit of material(as in kilometres driven per litre of gas) or output per unit of capital. Each of these productivity ratios may be influenced by a combination of factors, such as quality and availability of materials, scale of operations, rate of capacity utilization, availability and throughput capacity of capital equipment, attitude and skill level of the work force, motivation and effectiveness of the management. Ion exchange celluloses can be used in both column and batch processes, although for large-scale work difficulty has been encountered in using large columns of these materials. The cellulose is easily compressed, and this leads rapidly to a reduction in flow rate. Thus the main application of ion exchange cellulose in large-scale enzyme purification has been for batch adsorption and batch elution. 3, record 61, English, - cellulose%20ion%20exchanger

These exchangers have an open structure, which is readily penetrated by large molecules, and a large surface area giving them a high capacity for absorption of protein. The binding is usually freely reversible. DEAE-cellulose is used for chromatography of acidic and slightly basic proteins at pH values above their isoelectric point. The most useful range is pH 6-8. CM-cellulose is used for separation of neutral and basic proteins, which bind at around pH 4.5. Desorption of proteins from the ion exchangers is accomplished by changing the pH or increasing the ionic strength of the eluant. 1, record 61, English, - cellulose%20ion%20exchanger

Because of the way that enzymes work, there is a limit to the amount of a substrate that a single enzyme can process in a given time. If the concentration of substrate is increased, the rate at which product is formed also increases up to a maximum value. At that point the enzyme molecule is saturated with substrate, and the rate of reaction depends only on how rapidly the substrate molecule can be processed. This rate is expressed as a turnover number, which for many enzymes is in the range of 1000 substrate molecules per second. 1, record 62, English, - saturate
