Paraequestrianism will be included for the first time at the 2010 games(to be held in Lexington, Kentucky), while the FEI's two remaining disciplines, tent pegging and horseball, conduct separate championships. 1, record 2, English, - World%20Equestrian%20Games

The Alpine Skiing World Cup is a circuit of alpine skiing competitions regulated by the FIS. Held at ski resorts across Europe, the continental US, and Canada, competitors compete to achieve the best time in four disciplines : Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super-G, and Downhill. After every race, points are awarded to the top 30 athletes-The athlete with the most points at the end of the season wins the cup. Sub-prizes are also awarded for athletes with the most point totals in each individual race discipline. The World Cup is held every year, and is considered the premier competition for alpine ski racing after the tetrannual Winter Olympics. Many consider the World Cup to be a more valuable title than the Olympics or the biannual World Championships, since it requires a competitor to ski at an extremely high level in several disciplines throughout the season(and not just in one race). 1, record 9, English, - Alpine%20Skiing%20World%20Cup

1, record 9, French, - Coupe%20du%20monde%20du%20ski%20alpin

The expression "World Curling Championship" is singular when only one champion is crowned. But when the first "World Women's Curling Championship" was held in 1979, the plural form "World Curling Championships" was used because the event was already crowning the winner in the men's, senior men's, women's and senior women's categories; this generic designation was and will be used every time no official sponsor gives its name to the event.

The "World Men's Curling Championship"(singular because only one men's team is crowned champion) is named after the sponsor of the event or the trophy given. The World Men's Curling Championship began in 1959 as a competition between the Canadian and Scottish national champions for the "Scotch Cup"(1959-1967). The event became the "Air Canada Silver Broom" or simply the "Silver Broom"(or "Air Canada Silver Broom World Curling Championship, ""Air Canada World Curling Championship, "or "Silver Broom World Curling Championship") from 1968 to 1985, years during which the Silver Broom Trophy was given to the winner. The expression "World Men's Curling Championship" is singular when only one champion is crowned, which was the case for the curling competition from 1959 to 1978. Since 1979, the plural form "World Curling Championships" is used because the same competition determines the winner in the men's, senior men's, women's and senior women's categories; this generic designation was and will be used every time no official sponsor gives its name to the event.

If hockey is our most popular national game, then nobody does a better job of making us feel like Canadians that the people of Plaster Rock. Every year, this community brings together 96 teams from across North America to compete for the "World Pond Hockey Championships". This is "four-on-four" play, with no goaltenders and plenty of action! All games are outdoors on a lake which is home to 24 ice surfaces. This means that many teams can play simultaneously for an exciting three days. Nothing like this exists anywhere else in the world. It serves as a celebration of Canadian culture-not just our love of hockey but, our love of hockey on the ponds, lakes and rivers of our childhood. 1, record 37, English, - World%20Pond%20Hockey%20Championships

1, record 37, French, - Championnats%20mondiaux%20de%20hockey%20sur%20glace%20naturelle

This is a neologism of meaning (de sens). A new meaning has been given to a word that already exists. However, the meaning of the word has been restricted to refer to a specific idea (restriction de sens). "Quad" is really short for "quadruplet" which means "a combination of four of a kind" (Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary). Therefore, the word "quadruplet" has been clipped (troncation) to the short form "quad" which has been given a new but restricted meaning in the field of figure skating. 2, record 42, English, - quad
