The Association was founded in 1945 as the Parks and Recreation Association of Canada(PRAC). PRAC began in a time of concern to deal with the changes and challenges expected after the Second World War, including the need to provide parks and recreation services. Twenty-five years later the association's name was changed to the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association.
