The National Day of Mourning, held annually on April 28, was officially recognized by the federal government in 1991, eight years after the day of remembrance was launched by the Canadian Labour Congress. The Day of Mourning has since spread to about 80 countries around the world and has been adopted by the AFL-CIO and the International Confederation of Free Trade. The Canadian flag on Parliament Hill will fly at half-mast. Workers will light candles, don ribbons and black armbands and observe moments of silence. Le Jour de deuil national, célébré chaque année le 28 avril, a été officiellement reconnu par le gouvernement fédéral en 1991, huit ans après l'adoption du Jour du Souvenir par le Congrès du travail du Canada. Le Jour de deuil national a depuis été adopté dans près de 80 pays et reconnu par FAT-COI et la Confédération internationale des syndicats libres. Le drapeau canadien sera hissé à mi-mât seulement sur la Colline du Parlement. Les travailleurs allumeront des bougies, porteront des rubans et des brassards noirs, et enfin se recueilleront en silence pendat quelques minutes. It was in 1920 that was founded, in The Hague(Holland), the international trade union organisation currently known as World Confederation of Labour-WCL. Born in the European cradle and inspired by the basic values of Christian humanism, this organisation was constituted under the name of "International Federation of Christian Trade Unions(IFCTU).
