The World Data Center(WDC) system was established by the International Council for Science(ICSU) to archive and distribute data collected from the observational programs of the 1957–1958 International Geophysical Year. Originally established in the United States, Europe, Russia, and Japan, the WDC system was then expanded to other countries and to new scientific disciplines. Its holdings included a wide variety of environmental data that covered timescales ranging from seconds to millennia. The GCRMN is tasked by national governments, United Nations agencies, international NGOs and marine institutes to promote monitoring of the coral reefs of the world. The aim is to raise awareness on their current status and provide data to assist resource managers in coral reef conservation. The goal of GODAR was to increase the volume of historical oceanographic data available to climate change and other researchers by locating ocean profile and plankton data sets not yet in digital form, digitizing these data, and ensuring their submission to national data centers and the World Data Center System. The Meteorological Data Collection and Reporting System(MDCRS) is designed to support improved weather forecasting, particularly for upper-air wind and severe weather. First developed for the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Weather Service in 1991, the system collects and organizes up to 28, 000 real time, automated position and weather reports per day from participating aircraft. This effort requires the acquisition, quality control, processing, summarization, dissemination, and preservation of a vast array of climatological data generated by the national and international meteorological services. NCDC' s mission is global in nature and provides the U. S. climate representative to the World Meteorological Organization, the World Data Center System, and other international scientific programs. The World Radiation Data Centre (WRDC) is one of specialized World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Data Centres located at Voeikov Main Geophysical Observatory (MGO). The WRDC had been founded in 1964 and since that time it continuously collects, processes, archives and distributes solar radiation data received at the world radiometric network.
