Condominium(condo) storage refers to space that a producer may own or lease within a licensed primary elevator... Using condo storage enables producers to position their grain closer to the market and allows them to initiate a sale at any time from anywhere around the world. Producers are also able to avoid spring road bans and the difficulty of moving grain by truck in the winter from on farm storage bins to a primary elevator. In the case of Canadian Wheat Board grain, condo storage allows producers to deliver into the elevator system above quotas and prior to a contract call. 2, record 1, English, - condominium%20storage

2, record 1, French, - capacit%C3%A9%20de%20stockage%20garantie%20au%20producteur

In some parts of the world, such as the Canadian West, the climate is such that aeration in storage is not a requirement. In an emergency, the condition of damp grain in storage can in fact be improved by "airing" it simply by circulating the grain through the silo conveying system. In a damp grain emergency, aeration fans can be used to improve conditions in bins and eliminate hot spots by equalizing temperatures. Aerating can be very useful for long-term grain storage. 1, record 10, English, - aerating

Commodity exchanges developed in cities which were transportation or trading centres for commodities. New York was still called New Amsterdam when an open market developed along the Manhattan Island waterfront. Here businessmen traded grain, fats, oils and provisions under the very bows of the ships that carried produce to world markets and brought silks to New York. Today this exchange is known as the New York Produce Exchange. It is one of several exchanges in that city providing facilities for trading in many basic commodities including grain. 1, record 13, English, - New%20York%20Produce%20Exchange

The concept of building major strategic port storages, suitably located to serve a large area, has caught the interest of many including, the FAO and the World Bank. The concept of building strategically located "transshipment" ports also has potential. Such facilities would transfer grain from large ocean bulk carrier to small coasters that could serve shallow receiving ports. Potential locations for such transshipment ports include the Caribbean Sea, the Mediterranean, Singapore, Hong Kong, and other ports on the coast of Mainland China. 1, record 14, English, - transshipment%20port

The Standards Committees are also responsible for recommending grade specifications to the Commission. However, statutory grades defined in Schedule 1 of the Canadian Grain Act cannot be established, amended or eleted, except by Order of the Governor in Council on the Commission's recommendation. These statutory grades are the keystone of the Canadian grading system. They cover most grades sold domestically or for export, and are recognized and accepted by all purchasers of Canadian grain. Two basic grain grading systems are in use throughout the world : the fair average quality system and the numerical system. The numerical system is the more common system. It separates grain into divisions of quality defined by grading factors. Each division is identified by a grade name or number and grain is bought and sold on the basis of these grades. Buyers obtain the specific quality desired by selecting the grain by grade name and number. In some grading systems, such as Canada's, a certificate of grade is acceptable to an importer, and no additional samples are required as evidence of quality. In other systems, importers demand additional safeguards, such as a sample, together with analytical details of the actual grain being shipped. 1, record 17, English, - numerical%20system

1, record 17, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20num%C3%A9rique

Shiploaders are normally used in pairs with one man operating each loader. Grain is conveyed to the top of the shiploader and falls by gravity through a large spout into the ship's hold. These machines can normally swing from left to right, extend the boom and telescope and rotate the vertical spout. The operator, who sits in a cab mounted on top of the shiploader, can move the loader either up or down or backwards and forwards allowing it to reach into all parts of the ship's hold.
