Christmas(literally, the Mass of Christ) is a holiday in the Christian calendar, usually observed on December 25, which celebrates the birth of Jesus. According to the Christian gospels, Jesus was born to Mary in Bethlehem, where she and her husband Joseph had traveled to register in the Roman census. Christ's birth, or nativity, was said by his followers to fulfill the prophecies of Judaism that a messiah would come, from the house of David, to redeem the world from sin. 1, record 1, English, - Christmas

Warning : the English term "favorite", as in the phrase "The Women's favorite at the French Open this year is Mary Pierce" is, unfortunately, not seen in the press in North America as often as the more ambiguous term "top-seed(ed player) ". "Top-seed" can have two distinct meanings : 1) the one player expected to win the tournament 2) a top-level player ranked high who has good chances of making it through several rounds. On the other hand, the term "top-ranked player" is at times carelessly used as a synonym for "top-seeded player" or "top seed". One is "seeded" at the tournament level(Wimbledon, the Canadian Nationals, etc.), but is "ranked"(No. 1, 2, 3, etc.) either at the respective national or international(ATP or WTA) levels, especially if there is no mention of a tournament. No. 1 seed(or... seeded No. 1)=top seed=top-seeded player. Compare with No. 1 player(in the world, according to the computer rankings). Also, be cautious of the French cognate "favori(te) ", which carries a more subjective connotation, i. e. the sweetheart of the audience. See also "top-seeded"(adjective), "darling"(="favorite"). 1, record 2, English, - top%2Dseeded%20player

The Church of Christ, Scientist was founded in 1879, in Boston, Massachusetts, U. S. by Mary Baker Eddy, the author of its distinctive book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which offers a unique interpretation of Christian faith. Christian Science teaches that the reality of God denies the reality of sin, sickness, death and the material world. Accounts of miraculous healing are common within the church, and adherents often refuse traditional medical treatments. 1, record 3, English, - Church%20of%20Christ%2C%20Scientist

... the urban world into which Mary progressively enters is typical of modern African town-life. It displays the familiar interplay between formal and informal sector markets for labour and commodities, a high degree of ethnic and linguistic pluralism, and a relative dominance of formal organizations. The last foster a general awareness of formal-sector career models, which the young urbanites especially seek to emulate. Kinship appears to offer an urban reception structure for recent migrants that patterns urban-rural relations; however, ready alternatives to kinship are offered by urban churches and by the urban workplace, each providing a non-kinship, urban reception structure and reference group which may, however, superficially be cast in the idiom of fictive kinship. Commonly men and women do not follow the same trajectories in urbanization. The town, while largely destructive or rural-based social placement, is the site of a proliferation of new forms of social placement in class terms, depending on capital formation and on socio-economic distinction. 2, record 5, English, - reception%20structure
