Immersive user interfaces are being increasingly utilized for a variety of purposes. Immersive user interfaces may present a virtual reality scene to a user who may be engaged in gaming or other activities. With the advent of 360° and 720° panoramic visual images, the user experience has improved as the user of an immersive user interface is able to view different portions of the virtual reality scene, much in the same manner that a person views the real world. Augmented reality(AR) is the addition of digital imagery and other information to the real world by a computer system. AR enhances a user's view or perception of the world by adding computer generated information to their view. Spatial augmented reality is a branch of AR research that uses projectors to augment physical objects with computer generated information and graphics. Traditionally, projectors have been used to project information onto purpose built projection screens, or walls. SAR on the other hand, locates(or projects) information directly onto objects of interest, including moving objects. SAR systems use sensors to develop a three dimensional(3D) model of the world, and typically include tracking systems that enable them to dynamically track movement of real world objects. Such movements or changes are integrated into the 3D model so that updates can be made to projections as objects are moved around. 1, record 4, English, - spatial%20augmented%20reality

2, record 4, French, - r%C3%A9alit%C3%A9%20augment%C3%A9e%20spatiale

Optical see-through head-mounted displays(OST-HMD) find myriads of applications from scientific visualization to defense applications, from medical visualization to engineering processes, and from training to entertainment. In mixed or augmented reality systems, OST-HMDs have been one of the basic vehicles for combining computer-generated virtual scene with the views of a real-world scene. Typically through an optical combiner, an OST-HMD maintains a direct view of the physical world and optically superimposes computer-generated images onto the real scene. Compared with a video see-through approach where the real-world views are captured through cameras, it has the advantage of introducing minimal degradation to the real world scene. Therefore an OST-HMD is preferred for applications where a non-blocked real-world view is critical. 1, record 6, English, - optical%20see%2Dthrough%20head%20mounted%20display

1, record 7, French, - augmentation

For all we know electrons and quarks are elementary particles, which means that in no experiment has there anything like a structure of these particles been seen. They appear point-like, unlike the proton, neutron, nucleus and atom that have sizes that can be measured. It is, of course, entirely possible that particles that are called elementary today shall turn out to be composite; let it be said though that they have been probed quite extensively.... The aim is to know all about them, their properties and their interactions. The idea is that from this nuclear physics, atomic physics, chemistry, in fact, the whole physical world derives. Thus particles and their interactions are the very fundamentals of nature. That is the view now. An elementary particle physicist studies primarily these elementary particles and not the larger structures such as protons, nuclei or atoms. 1, record 10, English, - elementary%20particle%20physicist

Anti-globalists differ in their means of action and in the causes that they defend. But they share a certain view of the world. They see a world which the legitimate interests of many people are being crowded out by the power of big corporations, which place the pursuit of short-term profitability above the fulfilment of important needs, such as care for the environment, human rights and poverty reduction. They also feel that the design of global governance and the way international institutions operate are biased in favour of the interests of these big corporations.... In his book "What a Great Idea", Charles Thompson suggested that the only way to truly understand this world is to learn from positives as well as from negatives. Ying-Yang, Summer-Winter, Day-Night are just some examples of that. Problem reversal method is based on stating the problem in reverse. Change a positive statement into a negative one. Next, try to define what something is not, change the direction or location of your perspective. This will give you the opportunity to look at your problem from radically different point of view, which might lead to completely new and unexpected practical solutions. 2, record 22, English, - problem%20reversal%20technique

Similar Triangles. When viewing objects in the real world, the light rays from the objects within the viewer's field of view enter the eye radially rather than in parallel as in the orthographic projection. The eye is very small compared to the scene it is viewing, and the light rays are projected to the point(the eye) rather than a plane. The equations for the projection are derived using the "similar triangles" method, where the triangle formed by the viewer's eye, space z, and space point is similar to that formed by the eye, the screen distance from the viewer's eye, and the screen point. 1, record 31, English, - similar%20triangles

Demilitarization. A zone or territory is said to be demilitarized when two or more States agree by treaty not to fortify it with the end in view of preventing war. A notable example of this was the case of Germany : the treaty of Versailles of 1919 which ended the First World War provided that «all fortified works, fortresses and field works, situated in German territory to the west of a line drawn fifty kilometers to the east of the Rhine, shall be disarmed and dismantled. »The obligation not to fortify is a form of negative servitude. 3, record 33, English, - demilitarization

To participate in KIDS FROM KANATA, a teacher needs a computer and modem with access to a telephone line. Participants log in to the Canadian national computer packet network, Datapac, to gain access to the SciLink host computer in Toronto. Most cities in Canada have local phone access to Datapac. SciLink is also available via the Internet, a network of networks connecting educational institutions around the world. Participating schools are organized into triads with a wide geographic dispersion, with each triad hosted by a Native, Aboriginal or First Nations classroom. Students interactively conduct research about their other two triad members under headings such as Health, Environment, Language and Culture, History, Education, Economics, and Politics. As issues are discovered and developed in their own and buddy sites, students present points of view and conduct exercises in conflict resolution to develop solutions based on understanding rather than argument. 1, record 37, English, - Kids%20from%20Kanata

1, record 37, French, - Les%20enfants%20du%20Kanata
