WOVEN REINFORCEMENT [7 records]

Record 1 2011-04-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fabric Nomenclature
DEF

Of or relating to a fabric that is woven with a double thread at regular intervals so that small tears do not spread.

CONT

Ripstop nylon is a light-weight nylon fabric with inter-woven ripstop reinforcement threads in a crosshatch pattern. The material comes in many different colors and sizes, including thickness. It is woven with coarse, strong warp and filling yarns spaced at intervals so that tears will not spread. Ripstop nylon produced for various purposes may be waterproof, water resistant, fire resistant, or have zero porosity(will not allow air or water through), and can come in light, medium and heavy weights. Textures range from a soft and silk-like material to a crisp or stiff fabric that sounds like a paper bag when moved.

OBS

All these forms are found: Rip Stop, Ripstop, RipStop, Rip-Stop, rip stop, ripstop, rip-stop.

CONT

Manteau Traditionnel Kipmik. […]

DEF

A woven, open-mesh reinforcing fabric made from continuous-filament yarn. Used in the reinforcement of polymeric sheeting.

CONT

Woven fabrics are used to reinforce some spread coated and some calendered geomembranes. The type of woven fabric generally used to reinforce calendered geomembranes is a scrim. A scrim is a type of open weave fabric with a low mass per unit area (ie, a "lightweight" fabric),

CONT

Open weave fabrics, used to form composite geotextiles, are sometimes referred to as scrims.

CONT

Manufactured, reinforced geomembranes are made in a plant, usually by spread coating or calendering. In spread-coated geomembranes, the reinforcing fabric (woven or nonwoven) is impregnated and coated on one or both sides with the compound, either polymeric or asphaltic. In calendered reinforced geomembranes, the reinforcing fabric is usually a scrim.

OBS

[R geomembrane] An abbreviated system for identifying geomembranes consists of providing the generic name (or initials) of the base product, followed by the letter R if the geomembrane is reinforced. Examples: A PVC geomembrane; a CPE-R geomembrane.

OBS

[Supported geomembrane] ... the term "supported", sometimes used for "reinforced", is not recommended because it may create a confusion with the "supporting" soil or geotextile on which the geomembrane is resting.
