En droit civil, la propriété est classiquement définie par le biais de ses attributs : usus, fructus et abusus. Le droit d'usage (usus) est décrit comme la faculté de retirer de la chose les services qu'elle peut procurer, sans en percevoir les fruits — sinon l'usage se confondrait avec le jus fruendi — et sans en faire une utilisation non susceptible de se renouveler — sans quoi l'usage ne se distinguerait pas du jus abutendi. 1, record 1, French, - usus

Recent work on the creative workforce in the UK [United Kingdom] has suggested systematic exclusions for women, ethnic minorities, and those from working-class social origins. Moreover, these exclusions shape a powerful sense of what a creative worker, whether artist, actor, writer, director, or musician, is. This "somatic norm" in creative occupations is manifested in the figure of the able-bodied, white, middle-class-origin man, a norm also dominant across other elite occupations in Britain.... The dominance of the white male, middle-class body was intertwined with the ideal type of government civil servant, a "somatic norm" serving to exclude those who did not fit this norm. 3, record 4, English, - somatic%20norm

Scare quotes are quotation marks placed around a word or phrase from which you, the writer, wish to distance yourself because you consider that word or phrase to be odd or inappropriate for some reason. Possibly you regard it as too colloquial for formal writing; possibly you think it's unfamiliar or mysterious; possibly you consider it to be inaccurate or misleading; possibly you believe it's just plain wrong. ANSI X3. 23-1985 defines Cobol in terms of modules and their individual level of implementation(i. e. 1 or 2). The modules are combined into three subsets identified as "minimum", "intermediate", and "high". There are also four additional modules, each of which is optional. These are "report writer", "inter-program communication", "debug", and "segmentation". The "minimum" subset is composed of all language elements of level 1 of the "nucleus", "sequential I-O", and "inter-program communication". The "intermediate" subset is composed of all language elements of level 1 of all required modules. The "high" subset is composed of all language elements of the highest level of all required modules. The optional modules, at any level, may be associated with any of the subsets. 1, record 33, English, - additional%20module

1, record 33, French, - module%20suppl%C3%A9mentaire

So what, exactly, is the Web 2. 0 movement? As an ideology, it is based upon a series of ethical assumptions about media, culture, and technology. It worships the creative amateur : the self-taught filmmaker, the dorm-room musician, the unpublished writer. It suggests that everyone--even the most poorly educated and inarticulate amongst us--can and should use digital media to express and realize themselves. 1, record 38, English, - Web%202%2E0%20movement

... the storyteller in the Montagnais oral tradition is the equivalent of the historian and writer in western societies which favour writing. He embodies the identity of the Amerindian community through the tales of which he is the guardian. Moreover, the Montagnais are conscious of the various socio-cultural functions which the oral tradition comprises. They actually make a distinction between "atanukan" and "tipatshimum". The former are considered mythical tales or legends. They tell the story of the origin of the world and the Indian territory, the creation of social and religious rules. The original garage wine is called Le Pin, and its grapes grow on a tiny, five acre plot in Pomerol, which is near St. Emilion in Bordeaux, France. The first vintage, from 1981, was so astonishingly good that other winemakers soon followed suit to create their own boutique wines(as small wine batches were originally called). Since most of these operations were housed in relatively modest accommodations the Le Pin wine cellar is in the basement of a beat up old farmhouse the French writer Nicholas Baby came up with the name vins de garage and called the vintners garagistes... 1, record 52, English, - garage%20wine

Because this term was borrowed from Yiddish to English, we chose to leave it also in its borrowed form in French (the alternative would likely be a very long, wordy, analytical French phrase). Rather than being a totally new word to the English language, "tchotchke" has existed since the late 1960s. However, its former meaning ("inexpensive souvenir or trinket") which is now obsolete in current usage, has been replaced by a new, very domain-specific usage in Astrophysics. Such semantic changes are not unusual, as languages are in a constant state of evolution (and in this case, the meanings are not completely dissimilar and unrelated). 2, record 53, English, - tchotchke
Record number: 53, Textual support number: 2 OBS
This neologism is also a "borrowing". English borrows words liberally from other languages; it has, likely, throughout its history. Though the purposes and conditions of borrowing veary greatly, the appearance of foreign words in English often mean a writer is using a native name for an unfamiliar thing or idea. Expanding global contacts are accompanied by more and more borrowings from languages, especially those of Asia and Africa. 2, record 53, English, - tchotchke

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction represents the very best in contemporary fiction. One of the world's most prestigious awards, and one of incomparable influence, it continues to be the pinnacle of ambition for every fiction writer. It has the power to transform the fortunes of authors, and even publishers. In 2004, not only did Alan Hollinghurst's The Line of Beauty reach the bestseller lists, but previous winners Life of Pi(2002) and Vernon God Little(2003) were also amongst the bestselling books of the year.

A smothered verb is a verb converted to a noun, so it needs a helping verb and prepositions or articles to express action. This lengthens a sentence and saps its vitality. It also encourages use of the passive voice. "We are in agreement with the decision. "In this sentence, the writer has smothered the main verb(agree) with a noun(agreement). The noun now requires a helping verb(are) and a preposition(in) to show action. 3, record 62, English, - smothered%20verb
Record number: 62, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Who Was That Masked Verb? An easy way to make your writing more brief is to unmask verbs. A masked (or smothered) verb kills your sentence with word overload or by unnecessarily combining nouns and verbs. So instead of writing, "The report is saying everything is fine," write, "The report says everything is fine." You’ve strengthened the verb by taking out "is," a static word that does little to move the reader forward. Other examples: "The committee made the decision to adjourn" vs. "The committee decided to adjourn"; "I came to the conclusion he was right" vs. "I concluded he was right." 2, record 62, English, - smothered%20verb

1, record 63, French, - dictionnariste

There are two versions of how the name originated. The first is that after one of the team's big victories a certain newspaper had intended to have as its headline ALL BACKS; intimating that the forwards were playing like backs; but a typographical error actually gave the headline as ’ALL BLACKS’. The other, and the one to which I incline, is that the name originated with the London ’Daily Mail' Rugby writer, J A Buttery, who in a paper-back issued after the tour, ’Why the All Blacks Triumphed’; said that he began referring to the team as All Blacks because of the colour of their uniform. 4, record 72, English, - All%20Blacks

An option which allows the buyer of the option to defer payment of premium until such time as the option moves in-the-money. To the extent the cap or floor does not move in-the-money during the life of the contract, there is no premium payment due the option writer. Cross recercelée : We find the term sarcelly more frequently used, but there are so many varieties of spelling adopted by different authors of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, that it is a quetion whether there is one word or two; attempts, however, appear to have been made to distinguish different meanings attached to different modes of spelling. They are as follows, so far as printed works go(manuscript readings would add to the number) : cercelée, recercellé, recersile, resarcelée, resarcelled, sarcelée, sarcelly. One writer speaks of cerclée being spelt cercelée and recercelée, and so confused with the sarcelly. 2, record 96, English, - recercel%C3%A9

Le journaliste Philip Green est chargé par son rédacteur en chef de faire un article sur l'antisémitisme. L'idée lui avait été suggérée par sa nièce, Kathy Lacey, aux idées libérales. Pour mieux réussir son enquète, Philip décide de se faire passer pour Juif. Les problèmes qu'il rencontre sont édifiants : l'antisémitisme n'est pas un vain mot. Ce «mur invisible» menacera même un temps le couple que forment Philip et Kathy. 1, record 100, French, - Le%20Mur%20Invisible
