Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
At the end of the J stroke, the paddle is kniffed forward underwater with the power face of the paddle almost flat and facing up. Steering is accomplished by pulling up on the blade as it is brought forward. About halfway through the recovery, the paddle is allowed to slip out of the water in readiness for the next power stroke. The trick is getting a very slight angle on the blade as it comes forward. If the angle is wrong the paddle will plane out of the water or drive too deep. The angle is controlled by the upper hand. 2, record 2, English, - Canadian%20stroke
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
It used to be called the kniffing J but American canoeists began referring to it as the Canadian stroke. Most Canadians are happy to go along with this name because it is such a beautiful stroke. 2, record 2, English, - Canadian%20stroke

2, record 2, French, - coup%20canadien

An isolator that passes energy in one direction through a waveguide while making possible the absorption of energy from the opposite direction. A ferrite rod, centered on the axis of a short length of circular waveguide, is located between rectangular-waveguide end sections displaced 45 degrees with respect to each other. A signal in the desired direction is rotated 45 degrees by the ferrite rod to make it correct for the output waveguide. A backward signal is rotated 45 degrees in the wrong direction and its energy absorbed by resistance cards. 2, record 4, English, - ferrite%20isolator
