To solve the problem on the microstructural characterization of metallic superlattices, taking the NiFe/Cu superlattices as example, we show that the structures of metallic superlattices can be characterized exactly by combining low-angle X-ray diffraction with high-angle X-ray diffraction. First, we determine exactly the total film thickness by a straightforward and precise method based on a modified Bragg law from the subsidiary maxima around the low-angle X-ray diffraction peak. Then, by combining with the simulation of high-angle X-ray diffraction, we obtain the structural parameters such as the superlattice period, the sublayer and buffer thickness. This characterization procedure is also applicable to other types of metallic superlattices. 2, record 8, English, - metallic%20superlattice

The radiation produced by X-ray tubes and by isotopes such as Iridium 192 and Cobalt 60 can look through welds to reveal discontinuities invisible to the human eye. The soundness of critical joints is laid bare on the radiographic film. In X-ray topography, a crystal is illuminated using a highly parallel monochromatic X-ray beam and the diffraction pattern is recorded using fine-grain film placed very close to the crystal. Under these illumination conditions, the diffraction from different points in the crystal is spatially resolved at the film, and the diffraction spots provide images of the crystal. Image contrast results from variations in the diffracted intensity due to variations in lattice orientation and spacing associated with crystal defects and strains. X-ray topography probes bulk crystal perfection with a spatial resolution of a few micrometers. 2, record 22, English, - topography

An angle formed by a line joining the apices of the femoral condyles and a line joining the limits of the lateral patellar facet, on a film obtained with the knee in 20 ° of flexion, the x-ray beam directed cephalad from below parallel to the anterior surface of the tibia. Normally, the angle of intersection of these lines is open laterally. In patients with patellar subluxation the lines are parallel or open medially.
