ARGOS(Advanced Research Global Observation Satellite) is an American military spacecraft that was launched by a Delta 2 rocket from Vandenberg... The three tonne spacecraft may be a technology demonstration model, but enables observation of baseline data on Earth's atmospheric constituents. Among the instruments onboard are an ultraviolet imager, X-ray detectors, and plume detectors.

CONT

Human artificial chromosomes(HAC) have been considered as a possible vector for human gene therapy. In our previous work a minichromosome(MC), isolated from a patient, was transformed with a selectable marker gene(neo) which was targeted into its centromere; the MC was then size reduced, by X-ray exposure, to be easily manipulated and further engineered. The method developed for gene targeting, based on the use of chromosome specific centromeric satellite DNA as transfection carrier, is highly efficient and reproducible.

CONT

IBIS [Imager on Board the Integral Satellite] is an instrument for detailed gamma ray imaging on board of the INTEGRAL satellite, the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory. This satellite is dedicated to observe with high spectroscopic and angular resolution celestial gamma ray sources.... Two main instruments(Spectrometer SPI and Imager IBIS) and two monitors([Optical Monitoring Camera(OMC) ] and X-Ray) will observe in parallel celestial objects of all classes.

Orbiting Astronomical Observatory(OAO), series of four orbiting observatories launched between 1966 and 1972 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) to provide astronomical data in the ultraviolet and X-ray wavelengths filtered out by the earth's atmosphere. Only two of the four launches were successful, however. OAO-2, launched in 1978, which carried two large telescopes in addition to a cluster of four ultraviolet telescopes, four photoelectric telescopes, and a number of spectrometers and other devices, weighed 4, 200 lb(1, 900 kg) and was the heaviest satellite orbited to that time. Working primarily with ultraviolet radiation, it was able to photograph very young stars. OAO-3, which was also called Copernicus, was launched in 1972. Carrying what was at that time the largest telescope ever orbited and three smaller X-ray telescopes, OAO-3 was primarily used in the study of ultraviolet radiation from interstellar gas and dust and from stars near the edges of the Milky Way.
