Microincision vitrectomy surgery(MIVS) is one of the most significant innovations in vitreous surgery since the modern vitrectomy was developed... in the early 1970s. MIVS is defined as a combination of 25-or 23-gauge instrumentation and a transconjunctival sutureless procedure. The indication of MIVS was limited in macular surgery for several years after its introduction because of several disadvantages, including flexible instruments, lower aspiration rate, and dim illumination. The stiffness of instruments, cutting rates, and aspiration rates have been improved and the introduction of brighter light sources, such as xenon lamps, has improved illumination. As a result of these improvements, the indications for MIVS have expanded to include complicated cases with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. 6, record 1, English, - microincision%20vitrectomy%20surgery

1, record 1, French, - vitrectomie%20mini%2Dinvasive

An axial xenon oscillation model is developed for pressurized water reactor analysis. The model employs an equation system for axial difference parameters that is derived from xenon and iodine balance equations coupled with two-group, one-dimensional neutron diffusion equations. To treat nonlinear xenon flux-coupled terms, the spatial distributions of xenon, iodine, and flux are expanded by the Fourier sine series. 1, record 2, English, - axial%20xenon%20oscillation

Flux Oscillations. So far, we have assumed the flux distribution is static. Suppose now that without changing the total power of the reactor, the flux is increased in one region of the reactor. This typically results from refueling a channel. In the region of increased flux, the xenon now burns out more rapidly than it did before the change and its concentration decreases. This decrease in xenon concentration leads to a higher reactivity in this region, which, in turn, leads to another increase in flux. This again leads to increasing local xenon burnup, higher local reactivity, greater flux, and so on. 1, record 20, English, - flux%20oscillation

2, record 25, French, - atmosph%C3%A8re%20moyenne

Ion propulsion is a technology that involves ionizing a gas to propel a craft. Instead of a spacecraft being propelled with standard chemicals, the gas xenon(which is like neon or helium, but heavier) is given an electrical charge, or ionized. It is then electrically accelerated to a speed of about 30 km/second. When xenon ions are emitted at such high speed as exhaust from a spacecraft, they push the spacecraft in the opposite direction. 6, record 26, English, - ion%20propulsion

The xenon ion propulsion system, or XIPS(pronounced "zips"), is the culmination of nearly four decades of research into the use of electric propulsion as an alternative to conventional chemical propulsion.... the increased efficiency possible with XIPS allows for a reduction in propellant mass of up to 90% for a satellite designed for 12 to 15 years operation. Less propellant results in reduced cost for launch, an increase in payload, or an increase in satellite lifetime, or any combination of the above.... The on-board XIPS system is used primarily for spacecraft stationkeeping. Small thrusts are required to correct for the tug of solar or lunar gravity and to reposition the satellite in its proper orbit and altitude. A satellite's lifetime as well as its launch weight is thus determined by the amount of fuel aboard for its thruster system. While most current satellites use a chemical bipropellant propulsion system, a XIPS-equipped satellite instead uses the impulse generated by a thruster ejecting electrically charged particles at high velocities. XIPS requires only one propellant, xenon, and does its stationkeeping job using a fraction of that required by a chemical propellant system. 3, record 27, English, - xenon%20ion%20propulsion%20system

1, record 27, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20%C3%A0%20propulsion%20ionique%20au%20x%C3%A9non

The electron discharge emission is facilitated by converting Xenon Gas to Plasma using thermionic electron emission and expelling the Xenon Plasma from the ORU [Orbital Replaceable Unit]. 5, record 30, French, - neutraliseur%20de%20plasmas

Electronic flash tubes are made in many sizes and forms, such as straight, U, or spiral shapes, as required for different applications. The gas pressure and electrode spacing are arranged so that the tube will not flash by itself in most applications. But when a triggering pulse is applied to an external electrode, internal ionization results, and the tube flashes. Most of the flash tubes used today are filled with Xenon gas at a pressure of a fraction of an atmosphere. A series of 1 microsecond exposures of the arc in a typical tube made with a magneto-optic shutter shows that the arc starts as a narrow filament adjacent to the flash-tube wall on the side of the external triggering electrode. Soon, if the energy is sufficiently large, the arc filament enlarges to fill the entire flash tube. 3, record 41, English, - electronic%20flash%20tube
