The direct loading harvest phase is usually performed under a three-pass system. The first pass occurs after road construction where right-of-way logs are recovered. OBS

S'ils sont difficilement accessibles à un engin d'abattage, les terrains montagneux sont aussi difficilement accessibles à la plupart des débardeurs. Même de petits débardeurs ne pourront pas toujours s'approcher suffisamment de leur charge. C'est alors qu'on utilisera un tracteur muni d'un treuil de débusquage. Le tracteur s'approchera donc le plus possible des arbres à débusquer, c'est-à-dire qu'il montera aussi haut que la pente le lui permet. Puis, se servant du câble de 30 à 40 mètres de long enroulé sur son treuil, il attachera les arbres épars avec les élingues et, actionnant son treuil, formera une charge de 7 ou 8 arbres derrière son tracteur. Celui-ci pourra alors tirer la charge au bas de la pente ou en bordure de route, où souvent les arbres seront tronçonnés et chargés sur des porteurs ou dans des camions, ou bien repris en charge plus grosse par un débardeur à pince ou un semi-porteur.

OBS

Généralement, l'abattage mécanique ne demande par (...) l'intervention d'un débusqueur, parce qu'alors l'abatteuse ou bien transportera le bois elle-même (abatteuse-porteuse), ou bien le regroupera d'une certaine façon, préparant ainsi la charge pour le débardeur. Il ne faut pas oublier que le débusqueur ne prenant qu'une très petite charge (7 à 8 arbres, 10 au maximum) ne peut se permettre de d"barder sur une grande distance : le coût en serait prohibitif.
