Horizontal spindle machines may be rectangular in design, similar to hank dyeing machines, but modified to take frames, onto which yarn packages are inserted horizontally, or alternatively may be a horizontal autoclave into which is wheeled the carrier containing the yarn packages. Both types operate with high flow rate pumps, which are necessary to give good circulation of the dye liquor. These machines are usually used for bulky yarns, which are wound onto soft packages, again to increase dye liquor penetration. 1, record 3, English, - horizontal%20spindle%20machine

1, record 3, French, - machine%20de%20teinture%20horizontale%20%C3%A0%20clarinette

The yarn design section of the book takes spinners step-by-step through the process of spinning yarns of a pre-determined size and twist count. It then looks at different spinning methods and how to spin everything from solid hard-wearing worsted to soft, fluffy woollen yarns. Included are woven and knitted projects that suggest suitable end uses for handspun yarn. 2, record 4, English, - design%20of%20yarn

A type of quilting in which linear designs are raised from the background with a cord or yarn filler. 1, record 6, English, - trapunto
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 OBS
This kind of quilting is often combined with padded quilting to accentuate both the lines and shapes of the design. There are two ways to achieve the raised look. The first... is to stitch the quilt design, in parallel lines, through two layers of fabric. The resulting tunnels are then threaded with yarn or other rope-like filler. The second method involves only one layer of fabric. The cord is laid under the fabric and stitched in place at the same time. 1, record 6, English, - trapunto

Overshot : Of a pattern or weave : that is characterized by uninterrupted lines of weft where the yarn has been made to pass over two or more warp threads before re-entering the fabric. Any design that can be arranged on a formation of squares may be reproduced in overshot weaving... In the weaver's language, patterns produced by this system are called "overshot", because when the harnesses are raised, the weft threads skip or "float" over the groups of warp threads. 2, record 8, English, - overshot%20technique
