Canada Post, Commemorative Stamp. Starting in 1869, and continuing into the years following the Second World War, more than 100, 000 orphaned, abandoned and pauper children were sent to Canada by British churches and philanthropic organizations. They were welcomed by Canadian families as a source of farm labour, domestic help, and, in some cases, as children of their own. While some benefited from their new life, others were abused, neglected and overworked. Au Royaume-Uni, à partir de 1869 jusque dans les années qui ont suivi la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les institutions religieuses et les œuvres de bienfaisance ont envoyé au Canada plus de 100 000 enfants pauvres, orphelins ou abandonnés. The Government of Canada has recognized the experiences of Canada's Home Children by proclaiming 2010 the Year of the British Home Child. This September, Canada Post will honour the Home Children with a commemorative stamp. The stamp features an image of the SS Sardinian(a ship that carried children from Liverpool to Québec), a map symbolizing their cross-Atlantic journey, a photograph of a child at work on a farm and one of a newly arrived Home Child, standing beside a suitcase while en route to a distributing home in Hamilton, Ontario.  1, record 2, English, - Year%20of%20the%20British%20Home%20Child

Le gouvernement du Canada a reconnu le vécu des petits immigrants britanniques du pays et a désigné l’année 2010 Année des petits immigrants britanniques. En septembre, Postes Canada rendra hommage aux petits immigrants britanniques par un timbre commémoratif représentant le S.S.
