The program is managed by the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Canada and is funded by Sport Canada. In 1985, the Health Status Support Program(HSSP) was established to medically monitor nationally carded athletes on an ongoing, year-round basis. Since 1985 the HSSP has evolved so that today more than 600 elite athletes participate in the program. In early 1992 the name of the program was changed to the Canadian Athlete Monitoring Program(CAMP).
