Smithsonite.- Presque jamais cristallisée, toujours en amas granuleux ou mamelés, souvent aussi en formations encroûtantes. On peut trouver des cristaux dans les géodes, ils sont toujours mal formés [...] Opaque, de couleur blanche ou grise, quelquefois brun [...] d = 4,5 [...] Indice très élevé, il variera de 1,62 à 1,85. L'éclat est adamantin. C'est un minéral de la zone d'oxydation des gîtes de Zn, associé à la calamine et l'hydrozincite.
