The League of Arab States(LAS) was founded in March 1945 by the Arab States being signatories to its convenient. Based in Cairo, LAS is a regional organization charged with the aims to strengthen bonds among member countries. Moreover, it aims to coordinate their policies to achieve cooperation and integration in the economic, financial, legal, social and cultural areas, as well as in health, commerce, communications, foreign policy and other fields of common interest. La ligue des États arabes est née le 22 mars 1945 à Alexandrie. L'Égypte, l'Irak, le Liban, l'Arabie Saoudite, la Syrie, la Transjordanie et le Yémen (Nord) ont porté l'organisation sur les fonts baptismaux. Avec la fin de la domination coloniale, elle s'est élargie et compte désormais vingt et un membres : en plus des membres fondateurs, on trouve la Libye, le Soudan, la Tunisie, le Maroc, le Koweït, l'Algérie, les Émirats arabes unis, Bahreïn, Oman, la Mauritanie, la Somalie, Djibouti et les Comores, plus l'Organisation de libération de la Palestine (OLP) qui est membre à part entière depuis 1976. Le siège de la Ligue a été transféré du Caire à Tunis en 1979, après la signature du traité de paix israélo-égyptien.
