Project Youth-Link focuses on youth talking across Canada. The Project Youth-Link "room" is a forum for students to have a live discussion about the issues and concerns of young Canadians today. Students from across the country are electronically linked to each other so that they can talk live over the Internet using the SchoolNet MOO. The Minister of Canadian Heritage, Sheila Copps, officially launched Youth-Link on February 16th, 1996 as part of "Canada-Take it to Heart" week. Participants are eligible if they are high-school or post-secondary students, graduates or unemployed Aboriginal youths between the ages of 16 and 24. Successful candidates may be asked to develop, supervise or manage Aboriginal youth activities within the Friendship Centre. The work varies widely, depending on the needs of the participating Centre. Participants may be involved in activities ranging from youth and children's programs to cultural and recreation projects to various counselling programs.
