Alternative measures are also found in the Criminal Code for adult offenders and under the Youth Justice Act for juveniles. The Youth Division hears all cases involving a minor and hears any request concerning the safety or development of children(0-18 years) under the Youth Protection Act. It also hears adoption cases in keeping with the provisions of the Civil Code of Québec. In criminal and penal matters, the Youth Division applies the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
