Background : The Yukon Territory Water Board was established by the Northern Inland Waters Act in 1970, which was replaced by the Yukon Waters Act in 1993. Responsibilities : The responsibility of the Yukon Territory Water Board is to manage and protect the Yukon's surface and sub-surface water resources. Water Use Licences are issued for Type A and Type B projects. Type A projects have a greater potential for adverse environmental impacts. Project undertakings include quartz and placer mining hydropower generation, municipal use, agriculture, conservation, recreation and several miscellaneous projects such as culvert installation.

Responsabilités : L'Office des eaux du territoire du Yukon a pour fonctions de protéger les ressources hydrauliques du Yukon et d'en gérer l'utilisation. Les permis d'utilisation des eaux visent les ouvrages hydrauliques servant à l'exploitation minière en roche dure, l'utilisation des eaux par les municipalités dans certains cas, l'extraction de l'or, et leur utilisation pour d'autres fins industrielles. Les demandes de permis d'utilisations des eaux reçues par l'Office sont examinées au cours d'audiences publiques, annoncées dans la Gazette du Canada et dans les journaux locaux. Le requérant soumet son cas à l'Office lors de l'audience; les personnes qui ont au préalable signifié par écrit leur intention d'intervenir peuvent alors fournir leurs arguments en faveur ou contre la délivrance d'un permis au requérant.
