Blood Velocity Meter. A continuous ultrasonic wave in the megahertz region is scattered as it passes through blood. The back-scattered part of the signal can be collected by a receiving transducer next to the transducer emitting the continuous waves, and the returning signal will be shifted in frequency in proportion to the velocity of the blood in the vessel. This Doppler frequency shift can be detected and applied to a frequency meter(e. g. zero crossing detector) or frequency analyzer to produce a signal proportional to blood velocity.

Mise en forme par ligne à retard. Dans ces amplificateurs, la mise en forme est assurée par un circuit inverseur et une ligne à retard qui repousse le signal d’entrée d’une durée sélectionnée. Le signal direct et le signal retardé sont ensuite additionnés pour donner un signal de forme rectangulaire dont la hauteur garde l’information énergie. Avec ces appareils, le rapport signal/bruit est médiocre car il n’y a pas de filtre de mise en forme. Cependant, pour des détecteurs de mauvaise résolution (scintillateurs, chambre d’ionisation), ils conviennent parfaitement, d’autant plus que l’on peut générer des signaux de faible durée donc compatibles avec les forts taux de comptage.
