ZERO PROBABILITY [6 records]

Record 1 2013-03-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Probability (Statistics)
DEF

A distribution in which the discrete case assigns the same probability to each value within its domain; in the continuous case it has a constant probability density over a given interval.

DEF

A frequency distribution which has approximately the same number of observations [or the same probability density] in all class intervals within a certain range(the frequency being zero outside this range), so that the frequency polygon is a rectangle.

French

Domaine(s)

DEF

Loi de probabilité d'une variable aléatoire continue, telle que la densité de probabilité est constante dans un intervalle fini et nulle hors de cet intervalle.

CONT

Lois discrètes. Loi uniforme. [...] la loi suivie par une variable aléatoire X, qui prend n valeurs possibles - par exemple, les nombres entiers de 1 à n - toutes équiprobables. Elle est réalisée par le jet d'un dé n=6.

OBS

loi rectangulaire; loi uniforme : termes uniformisés par l'ISO.

CONT

Being independent, the tremas are allowed to intersect, and they do so with gusto : the probability of a trema's being intersected by no other trema is zero. In other words, the notions of trema and of gap cease to coincide : the term gap will be reserved for the intervals created by overlapping tremas.

CONT

a gap is benceforth denoted as trema. This neologism is being coined from the Greek trema meaning hole, whole distant relative is the Latin term = termite. Tremas do not coincide with gaps in all instances, which is why two different terms are required.

CONT

Lorsque D [est plus petit ou égal] et qu'on s'arrête à des trémas de longueur n>0, il est peu probable quoi que ce soit; s'il reste quelque chose, ce sera sans doute un seul petit intervalle [...] Par contre, lorsque 0<D<1, les trémas laissent indéfiniment non couvert un certain ensemble très mince, qui se trouve être précisément une poussière de Lévy de dimension égale à D.

CONT

Aggregation of microscopic particles diffusing in a fluid medium represents a common process leading to fractal structures. If the density of the initially randomly distributed particles is larger than zero, the probability for two "sticky" particles to collide and stick together is finite. It is typical for such systems that the resulting two-particle aggregate can diffuse further and may form larger fractal clusters by joining other aggregates. In the above process each cluster is equivalent with regard to the conditions for their motion, i. e., there is no seed particle as in the case of DLA. Consequently, this process is called cluster-cluster aggregation(CCA) to distinguish it from particle-cluster aggregation(CCA) to distinguish it from particle-cluster aggregation phenomena.

Subject field(s)

CONT

The inbreeding coefficient (F) is the probability that two alleles at any locus are identical and descended from a common ancestor.

CONT

Since the inbreeding coefficient is a probability, it can assume only the values within the range of zero to 1. 0. Inbreeding coefficients express the amount of inbreeding that has accumulated starting from a specific point in the ancestry of the population....
